Hospitals. Dangerous place.

Just got back from the local small town hospital here in Lufkin. One of our members w/ heart trouble in again. AS soon as I entered the parking lot I knew there was trouble. 2 Police crusers parked at the ER door. This is about 12:30PM so we are not talkin about the bad hrs of the night.

Enter ER to find my patient. Real 3rd degree as to who I am & how I am tied to the patient. I am his pastor & since this is Monday I am supposed to be off so dressed in faded jeans & old shirt. Of coarse w/ a vest over said shirt.

They let me go back & as I enter the room portion, first thing evident is police officer just inside the door at a desk. Another one at the end of the long hall of rooms. Two unarmed hospital security guards behind the nurses station desk.

What is going on? Dont know. Just know it dont take Perry Mason to know this is not the safe haven the LEOs would make us think.

Man, I am glad the hospitals here are not posted.

Likely they brought in an injured prisoner.

No injured prisoner here. The county transports all prisoner sick from the Diboll prison system or county jail if they are violent offenders. If they are not considered high risk then the prison medical staff brings them w/ a prison guard.

Hospitals here have no badge for us. There is not even a place for Clergy Parking at the one I was at. The other one is a 5 story huge Med center & there are 2 spaces reserved for us there. We walk like anyone else.

That would be my guess. I frequently had to escort someone to the hospital I had arrested who had been in an accident or some other infraction to be examined prior to booking and incarceration.

One I specifically remember is a two car accident with both individuals under the influence and they got into a fight and beat each other pretty good before we got there. There were three of us in the ER that evening because one car had two officers in it.

EDIT: I forgot another reason the LEO's and guards could be hanging around; they may have really good looking nurses in the ER and/or free coffee and donuts!

My workplace is similar with a NON COMPLIANT 30.06 posted (not to correct size) and employee manual specific mention.

I don't know that I've ever seen that many officers in our building as you describe but the various local cops all seem to have shifts. Police and county sheriff. They make walk-throughs and the other morning as I came for training (I normally work nights) one was standing at the entry to the parking garage.

I used to work in the E.R. in Nacogdoches, police come to the ER for accident reports, assaults, etc. all the time. I never felt threatened but we did have leo working side jobs in the ER at night. I did have tense situations when I worked on the ambulance in Center, TX. Cue the dueling banjos song! That place was rough.
