Gun Manual: mixed signals

Post by NcongruNt »

So I was reading through a Taurus manual, and found this lovely string of warnings:
WARNING:
Securing your firearm may inhibit access to it in a defense situation and
result in injury or death.

WARNING:
To prevent injury or death, it is imperative that you must keep your gun
unloaded, uncocked, and securely locked, with ammunition in a separate
location. In addition, take any other reasonable steps to limit the possibility o
theft, accident, or suicide.

WARNING:
Failure to properly secure a firearm may result in injury or death.
So if I secure my firearm, it may result in injury or death...
but to prevent injury or death, i must unload and secure my firearm...
and if i fail to properly secure my firearm, it may result in injury or death.

:headscratch

Wow.

Lawyer speak.
Trying to cover all the angles.
Just makes it confusing, and sounds like they don't know anything about which they speak.

I will have to give you a pat on the back for actually paying attention to that portion of the manual. I usually skip anything that doesn't directly relate to the care and feeding of my particular pet.

Me too, Hyunch! I'm going to look through some of mine when I get home and see if they have anything wierd like that. I don't have a Taurus of any kind though.

I have seen those before, except for the first one.

It reminds me of warnings on medications. I have taken many different drugs for migraines, and all of them have had warnings for the possible side-effect of headache. Or death...

This could get off topic but legalese language that contradicts itself is everywhere in the world we live in. Instructions with a new electric waffle iron:
1. Wash in hot soapy water prior to first use.
2. Do not immerse in water.

I always skip thru the first few pages of the owner’s manual and go to the maintenance – field strip section. If you read the other sections you will hurt yourself running in circles.
