CHL holder arrested after Arlington shootout.
Not a ton of information, but it sounds like they probably don't have the whole story yet. Two cars, driving down I-30 then through a residential neighborhood in Arlington shooting back and forth at each other. Apparently the driver of one of the vehicles had a CHL. He, and the occupants of the other car (the two they've found, anyway) have all been arrested.

I'll wait to hear the rest of the story before I try to draw any conclusions. Sounds like there was plenty of stupidity to go around.

Re: CHL holder arrested after Arlington shootout.
Considering that a vehicle body (not to mention the windows) does not provide protection against gunfire, the proper response to having guns pointed at you from another vehicle is not exactly clear cut.
My little pickup isn't fast enough to get away from anybody. So in a situation like that, my options would be pretty limited.
From the report, some of the people in the Suburban apparently ran away. If they were so innocent, what were they running from?
The (CHL) guy in the Caddy at least attempted to get a cop involved as soon as he saw one. So I'm not ready to condemn his actions as yet.
My guess is that the CHL guy ends up walking, and one or more of the people in the Suburban end up in trouble with the law.

If at all possible..Pitt maneuver??
In that situation your vehicle is your 2nd best weapon...your freeking brain is always the best weapon and a low center of gravity car can easily out maneuver a high center of gravity suburban
Shooting from a vehicle is ignorant and dangerous...at the very least accuracy is "gone out the window" [pun intended

An Escalade is built on the same frame as a Tahoe, so it has the same center of gravity as the Suburban.Molon_labe wrote:If at all possible..Pitt maneuver??

As a general statement, I agree. But if the vehicles were side-by-side, there is virtually no relative movement, so that's a lot different shot than firing at a vehicle in front or behind you. As as said, I agree with the general premise that you shouldn't be shooting from a moving vehicle, but there are circumstances when it would be both prudent and necessary. We just don't know what the circumstances are in this case.Molon_labe wrote:Shooting from a vehicle is ignorant and dangerous...at the very least accuracy is "gone out the window" [pun intended]

Remember that the LEO force continuum says that you can go to the next higher level, I expect no less for a civilian, therefore if someone points a gun at me, I am likely to shoot back.

1) You weren't there.Molon_labe wrote:If at all possible..Pitt maneuver??

Shooting from a vehicle is ignorant and dangerous...at the very least accuracy is "gone out the window" [pun intended]
2) You probably won't be present at the hundreds or thousands of similar situations that may occur from time to time in the future.
3) As such, it is a stretch (in my opinion) to catagorize shooting from a vehicle as "ignorant and dangerous" as a catagorical statement. There might be some situations where it represents your only chance.
4) An Escalade is a big Caddilac SUV. It's size, center of gravity, etc. are not all that different from a Suburban's.
5) Cops are trained to execute the Pitt manuver, and it is still difficult for them. Most people have no such training. How can someone who never practiced that move be expected to bet their life on being able to bring it off?
Furthermore, What makes a Pitt such a good idea to begin with? Cops are trying to capture or stop the subject(s). All we want to do is safely get away if possible. What if you do a Pitt manuver, and both vehicles come sliding to a stop? Now you have a car full of armed BG's to deal with.
As Chas said, shooting from a moving vehicle normally isn't "Plan A" but sometimes it could be all you have.

That number of incendiary tracer rounds probably cost just as much as that Suburban. That's a lot of money that fellow just burnt up on that car.Charles L. Cotton wrote:That'll do a fine job of repelling boarders!!Molon_labe wrote:Fine....if I owned a suburban..then I would just do this
