I have had training to defend for this and I am not that fast , thanks for the video as it got me thinking about the 21 foot rule and how fast the attack can happen.

This confirms what I have always believed. Everyone should be prepared to use hand-to-hand skills because it will most likely be the first thing you must do before you can ever get to your gun. Even slight blocks to get to cover or get an obstacle between you and your assailant will help.

Staying alert helps a lot too. I see a guy looking at me like that and shifting his weight side to side nervously is going to put me into a high state of readiness. ( can you say bladed and hand on weapon!)

Frankly, I don't think this is realistic. If someone wants to surprise assassinate you with a blade or gun, they're probably going to do it and you're probably not going to be fast enough.

I agree that empty hand training is important and the way to deal with this type of instant attack, but still you're gonna be at a pretty big disadvantage obviously.

More important would be the early recognition that something bad is about to happen and that you'd be taking measures(putting distance between you and the guy, putting a physical barrier between you and the guy, etc)

I liked the cheap stands and the fast holster. The vids were pretty cool too. That distraction method seems pretty effective. I read something a while back where the trainer carried a matchbook with a few dollars folded around it so he could toss it or a money clip as a distraction tool as well. I populate my decoy money clip with a couple of bucks and those fake credit cards that you get in the mail with the "your name here" printed on them. In a pinch, I think it would pass just long enough to put some distance between me and an attacker and allow me to draw either OC or pistol.
