Wife took the class !
The wife took the class this weekend and by all accounts did very well. We've already pre-paid her paperwork with the state so all she has to do is mail it in. (We forgot it on the couch this morning.)
She called me at lunch during the class to brag and tell me the instructor said he'd never seen a woman load a magazine that fast or shoot that well. Needless to say, big-daddy is proud, and so is she.
She had originally signed up for the women's only class through http://www.hardlyangelschl.com/ but that got scrapped due to poor enrollment. She was disappointed but the folks running the class made good on it by letting her go to a mixed-class the day after her original scheduled day and reserving the right to sit in on the ladies-only class next time it was taught. So that turned out well too. :)
She said she completely enjoyed the class and the instructor was spot-on about just about everything.

Re: Wife took the class !
One of the proudest days of my life was when my wife took the CHL test. I had given her training off and on over a period of years, and years ago when we went hiking in Alaska she carried both her Ruger .44 mag. carbine and her .357 S&W mod. 19 for self-protection, but she still had that touch of anxiety when she thought about my carrying a concealed weapon. So I challenged her to prove to me and herself that there was nothing to be afraid of by earning her own license, whether or not she exercised it.
She took me up on it, passed the "ground school" with flying colors, and then went to my range with her class and her little S&W Airweight to shoot the range portion. The only semiautomatic I had at the time was my beloved elderly M1911 ca. 1916, and it was just a little too much recoil and noise for the little lady. Her instructor, at the range, talked her into borrowing his little 9 mm Glock for the range test so as to avoid having her license limited. She had never fired this weapon in her life -- the first time she fired it was when her range test began.
I was standing behind her when she was doing her thing at the bench, and suddenly as she and her class fired their last round I heard a round of applause. It was coming from a bunch of macho old hands standing there with me, and they were applauding Ann's expertise with the handgun. Fifty rounds into the kill zone.
I was mighty proud of that lady. A living example of fundamentals being what really count. Know the fundamentals and one can shoot any firearm satisfactorily. She has never exercised her license, and, indeed, she did not renew it upon its expiration. But she knows her Airweight is at her bedside table (after I added a CTC laser), and I am confident that she would be capable of using it if needed in my absence.

I guess that makes me the Master. If anyone tells the wife I said this I will deny it. She plinks tin cans at 45 feet with her laser-equipped Airweight.Rokyudai wrote:Congrats to your padawan!

Re: Wife took the class !
My wife is taking the class on March 8th. I am very proud of her. She has gotten used to me always packin' and she says that she always feels safe with the kids when I'm around, but realized that when she is out and about on her own that she is unarmed and a sitting duck...for now...It won't be long and we will be a great team! It is amazing how after you have carried for a while that you feel naked without your piece. I can't wait to talk with her about what she thought of the class. What kind of guns do your wives carry. I am thinking Kel-tek P3at, or glock 26...any other ideas?
Re: Wife took the class !
Don't restrict your thinking to only the small guns. Many women don't like the small frames because of the recoil.D.R.T. wrote:What kind of guns do your wives carry. I am thinking Kel-tek P3at, or glock 26...any other ideas?
I have done a lot of basic pistol classes for women and, just like the men, you can't predict which guns they will like. Some of them fall in love with the Colt Commander, some like the S&W 642 revolver (but not many

My personal favorite shooting gun is my Ruger GP100, but I don't carry it on my body. I usually carry a Bersa Thunder or my Glock 19.
Take her to a range where she can try a wide variety. You may be surprised at what she picks out!
Re: Wife took the class !
A big congrats to you better half there Ledi. Both of you having a CHL sorta makes it a family thing. My wife and I took the course together.
