Woohoo! Just gave the wife her Valentine's day present!

Post by The Annoyed Man »

I just gave my wife her Valentine's day present - a couple of days early, admittedly, but for scheduling reasons, it's better this way. I gave her a S&W 642 Crimson Trace of her very own... ...and she LOVED it and is tickled pink that she now has a gun of her own.

She'll be taking her CHL class in the next couple of months too.

I married above my station.

If I gave my wife a gun for Valentines Day- She would probably shoot me with it!

She's going to qualify using my H&K USP Compact in .40 cal. She already played with it a little bit last night just to get the feel of it. She's not a gun person. She's never been an "anti" (obviously); they're just not her passion. But she did acknowledge that having one of her own might make her into a "gun nut," and that it would be valuable to qualify with a semi-auto in case she eventually changed her mind about carrying a small frame revolver.

She is amenable to spending range time getting familiar with both pistols so as to be prepared for the qualification, and eventually for carrying.

Annoyed - that's good thinking. Let me know how it goes with your wife - I wonder if I should have someone else (as in a female) teach my wife to shoot - females relate better to females sometimes when it comes to things like this.

I taught my wife to shoot years ago, but it is not a skill she has kept up, due to her general lack of interest in the subject until now. That being said, I found that it was just like teaching anybody anything else.... treat her with respect and good humor while teaching her the skill, praise what she does well, and be at all times calm and supportive if she struggles with something. But like I said, she's going to need a lot of refreshing on what I taught her a while back. She's a pretty common sense person though, and she easily understands and readily adapts to things like safety rules. It's in her nature.

If you think your wife would be better off with another woman teaching her, I'll bet that there are NRA certified female instructors in our area of Grapevine. I just don't know of any personally. But also I'll bet that someone else on this board probably does. With any luck, they'll see your post and be able to make recommendations. And if I hear of anything, I'll let you know.

I teach Basic Pistol at the Roanoke Rec Center once every month. No more than 4 students to a class.

And taking the Basic class gets you $25 off the cost of the CHL class.

Here are pics of The Annoyed Woman's new toy:

It's really a tiny gun. I'm pretty sure that I'll eventually get one for myself as a BUG.
