+P and +P+ ammo with 3inch 1911...

Post by htxred »

I've read a few places, even my owners manuel of my EMP, stating that you shouldnt use +P ammo on 3inch 1911s.

Now im sure there are a few "rebels" here that went against all and have been using +P ammo with their 1911s, right? Can i get a few opinions on the good and bads? any frames crack? etc??

I woujld really like to know since i've stocked up on some winchester ranger 115gr +P+ and would hate to ruin my very expensive 1911.. :-/

Regardless of what Springfield says or more importantly does not say.......

I have an EMP on the way and I plan to shoot Federal Standard 9mm 124gr FMJ at the range and once I am happy with the gun, I will shoot 25 Federal 124gr JHP +P+ to ensure function. Then I will carry the +P+ and shoot the standard when I go to the range. I will probably fire two mags of +P+ at the range again from time to time when I go.

I seriously doubt that +P+ will hurt the gun in moderation. I would not feed it that diet continuously as I know that it is hard on the gun and causes more wear.

yea, more then likely its going to be something along those lines. 115gr ball ammo at the range and with the occasional full mag of JHP +P+, i dont make it to the range as often as i used to, like once or twice a month now, but its always been a habit to cycle through my mags once a month, im sure the ammo can sit in there longer, but peace of mind.

anyway, thanks for your input alan! oh yea, i beat you i got mine this past saturday at the local gunshow... but i paid a bit more then you. :(

Well, good you got yours....they are hard to find ....at any price.....

I was not really in any hurry to get one, so I took the best price with a slight wait......

I have been busy doing other deals and thinning my collection. Your Pro Carry (bobbed) is still with me though and I imagine it will go to the grave with me! "rlol"

Running fine, no problems.
Of course I only run with Wilson Combat Mags.
