Let's not turn this thread into a discussion of what we think will or will not happen, if open carry is adopted in Texas. The sole purpose of this question/poll is to see the cost open carry supports are willing to accept. There is another thread you can use to state that you either support or oppose the presumptions in this hypothetical question.

Chas.
I totally agree...Its about time you posted this situation ;-) , the poll only reinforces, yet also illustrates a very nasty outcome from the results of gaining this capability at the cost and exhuberance of the OC community...OC is to me just an statement one can choose to make or not, depending upon how much crap you are willing to put up with and on where you're at at the time...

When the situation is as legally detrimental to businesses for posting improperly, as the situation is to us, for potentially carrying in a place that is properly or improperly posted, not alot more can be done to improve our position on the issue...

Well....I don't think there is any "certainty" this would be the outcome. Charles has put forth a most insightful question, one we should all consider, but he isn't flatly stating that repercussions are certain or would be particularly widespread.

He presents excellent "food for thought" and has initiated discussion about a subject we should all be thinking about.

While INTERNET polls on a particular forum are fun to participate in, they are something less than scientific since the base is so select and small.

I tend to agree that the OC issue in Texas is one we should approach with caution. But remember, Concealed Carry didn't have a "snowball's chance" at one time either.

What is your reason for such an inane comment?

I voted no because I do not want to lose what I have.

My prior posts regarding OC state my beliefs.

I am tired of being the underdog, being chastised for my standing up for my rights.

The press, under constitutional protection despise us.

The politicians violate the constitution in taking our rights.

Soap box, ballot box, cartridge box, in that order.

We all do the soap box here and in our contacts to lawmakers.

We vote and what good does it do us?

It is obvious what remains.

I have to disagree with you. I truly feel that open carry would increase the number of business owners who would post their businesses "off-limits" to weapons carry. As I've said before, I think most people do not care they we carry since they don't see it or know about it. Put the weapons in the open and I think the "sheep" would react. I'll keep mine neatly tucked away...

Tom
But in the open carry scenario, they could just post a gun busters sign, and if you walked in with OC they could ask you to leave. 30.06 wouldn't be needed, still allowing you to CC.

I think Charles has opened up a very good topic, and I have seen some excellant opinions. The scary part is we really don't know what is going to happen untill when/if OC becomes legal. I will have to think about this all over again.

Charles L. Cotton wrote: If a person wants open carry at any cost, then the risk factors are irrelevant. However, if someone wants open carry only if it doesn't result in greater restrictions on citizen-carry, then he/she must consider carefully the possible ramifications. Merely accepting the argument that it will work fine in Texas because it works fine in Arizona or anywhere else without considering Texas' history is is not risk evaluation; it's blind faith.
Chas.
See, when I was out in Arizona, it seemed like you couldn't hardly take your gun anywhere. Any sign barred you, and anywhere that sold alcohol (restaurants) were barred, too! basically, I only OC'd in the car. and visiting family, I could only carry in the house, grocery store, and driving. that was it!

me, I'd rather have just CC than that. sure, I could OC and not worry, but didn't do me any good in the restaurants, et al.
FWIW, IIRC, AFAIK, FTMP, IANAL. YMMV.

I guess the only advantage (my opinion only) I see to OC is the elimination of risk for accidental display. I haven't seen anyone posting on this forum that has had to deal with the consequences of breaking concealment so I don't see this as much of a risk at all. Given the potential for additional restrictions, I voted no. While I would like to see some restrictions eased, I can live with things just as they are.

Open carry is fine and dandy

You have to realize though if you open carry the badguy KNOWS who to take out 1st

The niceness of Conceal carry is the badguys don't know who is libel to put an end to their attacks permanently (the big burly biker guy...or the nice old grey haired granny clutching her purse sitting in the back of the room)

I don't like giving up anything, if the anti's take an inch, its just an inch closer to that proverbial mile

What part of "Shall not be infringed" don't you understand?

I'm glad I read all the way to the end before posting, 'cause I was about to say, "I voted no, 'cause I think OC would actually be LESS of a deterrent to the would-be criminal than CC already is. The unknown is always scarier than the known."

So basically, "What he said."

I would love to see open carry, but ...
Open carry is about convenience, its about comfort, and its about making a statement. School carry is about life and death. I would hate for us to do anything to jeopardize this.

Well said. All the reasons I really want OC are the convenient ones. I will not jeprodize (SP) any thing we have or future gains, expecially College carry & then School.
