AMMO PRICE INCREASE @ ACADEMY COMING

Post by CWOOD »

I was at the Texas Tactical IDPA match today. After safety briefing there was time for a few announcements. A reliable fellow shooter who claimed to have a reliable source who works at Academy said that IN THE NEXT FEW DAYS Academy was have a 30% price increase in ammo prices.

I am just passing this along. You may take it for what ever it is worth. The emphasis was on "FEW" days.

I do know for a fact that Wal-Mart just had a 50+% increase. I have been shooting .45ACP Blazer Brass for $9.47/box. I just went to buy some a few weeks ago and it is now $14.88.

I found some Blazer aluminum .45 ACP for $237/1000 delivered....incredible!

This ammo increase is crazy. Might as well go back to black powder! I bought some .40 caliber at WW a couple of weeks ago and now it has gone up $7.00 per 100. What does the NRA have to say about this? I wonder if the powers to be can make ammo so expensive that the regular folks can't afford to buy it.

It's not just ammo going up. The Goldman Sachs commodities index shows that commodities have gone up over 10% since the beginning of december. Industrial metals (such as those that go into ammo) have climbed at the same rate as the overall index.

Oil has been lagging the rest, but it's moving now too.

I only buy factory self defence ammunition,In fact i just set up a new dilon 550 yesterday to go with my lee pro 1000,and my lee single stage.I cast lead bullets on my castig machine for about a penny a piece.I still shoot for around 3.00 or less for a box of 50.I started seeing the ammo crisis 2 years ago and new it was gonna go the way of .89 cent gasoline

The Wal-Mart price on Blazer Brass was fantastic, but it was only at a few select stores. I kept reading about folks buying it at $9.47 while the majority of Wal-Marts had been at $11.99 for almost a year.

I was put onto a couple of stores by a member here and proceeded to buy all I could find. Based on the WM's I called and visited, I figure maybe 1 store in 10 had the good pricing.

So for a good many of us, the price increase is more like 20%.

Still outrageous, though!

I bought a few hundred rounds of the Academy house brand Monarch Brass 9mm for 7.79 / box of 50.00 on Friday. I may go back and buy more.

I stopped by at Academy today and bought 5 boxes Remington of 22LR brass platted HP 11.60 per 525 rounds and 5 boxes of 9mm Monarch steel case practice ammo for 6.50 per 50 rounds. I asked the guy if he heard anything and he said the only time they increase ammo price when the manufacturer increases it and there has been one already in Jan. So he has not heard anything. I guess we'll find out.

I stopped by in Plano and the guy said shotgun shells are going up, but he hadn't heard anything on pistol ammo. I tend to agree they would't raise it until they have to make a new order, but maybe it is driven on speculation.

I placed an order at the local wal-mart about a month ago for 10 boxes of Blazer Brass .45ACP when the price was $9.47... it just arrived and I picked it up on Sunday... $102 for 10 boxes -- 500 rounds. I should have ordered 20 boxes...

Not to mention, employees did everything they could, came up with every excuse to get me to pay the full $14.88 per box. I actually had to have the store manager come and do the override because the CSM's refused to do it.

Gotta love service with a swastika, only at Wal-Mart. :reddevil

Just stopped by Academy last night and picked up 500 rounds of Monarch brass 9mm. I shot some the .45 flavor yesterday and was impressed; it's good quality stuff and by far the cheapest thing going right now. I asked the guy at the counter about price increases, and his reply was "it hasn't gone up YET"... I took that as a hint to buy all you can in the next few days, unfortunately I don't have much to spend on ammo until next week :banghead:

I think I will stop off at the Academy on I-35W south of Fort Worth and pick up some Monarch in 9mm. I have been using this for practice and IDPA and so far have been impressed with it. Gotta stop by the Crowley Community centr first and early vote though.

Prices did go up, purchased some 9mm blazers this morning at Academy. Shelf price was still $7.99 but register rang up $9.99. Evidently they did change prices in the computer but not on the shelf. I did get them for shelf price. That was at Academy on I-10 in Katy so now they know. Does anyone know if prices went up at Wal-Mart also?

Well that is a 25% increase, so not far from 30%. Sheesh, guess I need to start saving my brass and get back into reloading.
