I don't know of any ranges in the northern part of the state. (Others here will.)

There are ranges that allow you more freedom while shooting. PSC (Friendswood, south of Houston) and Thunder Gun Range (Conroe, north of Houston) both have IDPA bays. Bay Area Shooting Club (Crosby, east of Houston) and Golden Triangle Gun Club (Beaumont) will allow plinking, as long as you pick up your trash.

Ask around. There are gun clubs that allow you do do more than pick your gun up from a table and shoot only one target.

The NRA & TSRA are a bargain; they're much cheaper than the cold, dead hands experience.
