I mailed my packet 11 day's ago. At the end of my class the instructor told us to use Registered Mail, this way we would know when DPS received it. Off I go to mail my packet and find out Registered Mail is over $10. Me having an incredibly tight grip on my money decided I would know when they got it when the check cleared. IDIOT!! Ten days later the check has not cleared and I realize what I have done. That packed has everything need to "steel my identity" SS# DL# five years residence and employment history. IDIOT!! The check cleared today, all is well. Registered mail does more than allow you to know when DPS received your packet, it will be shipped under tight security. (Security provide by government agency
)

Re: Registered Mail
Glad to hear that the check finally cleared. Knowing when the packet reaches Austin is one of the milestones in waiting for your CHL to arrive. At a minimum, it should be sent certified with return receipt. It is a little more expensive, but it is money well spent.

Re: Registered Mail
I just got notification today that my application has arrived!
After spending $100 for CHL class and $140 for the CHL - why in the world would you NOT invest just $9 more for registered mail? It is a no brainer...right?
Now that all is well - let's just sit back, have a beer and BBQ - who's with me?
This is going to be a long wait!

Re: Registered Mail
Just a factoid: Registered mail does cost about $10. However, certified mail costs $2.65 plus regular first-class postage.That gives you a receipt when DPS gets your application.
