Houston City Council response to crime

Post by seamusTX »

On March 8, an elderly convenience store clerk in Houston was beaten to death during a robbery. In response, the Houston City Countil today began consideration of an ordinance that would require --
  • registration of businesses [?]
  • safety training for workers
  • at least two security cameras
  • clear visibility of the store interior from the street
The good news is that the safety training includes tactical shotgun.

Oh. No. That was in my dreams. :banghead:

I'm sure convenience store robberies will become almost non existant once you implement the new Hillary/Obama tips on how to be robbed while letting the robber know that you are aware that his upbringing has led to the way he now has to survive, and if he takes your life doing it ,well that's society's fault not his
It is said that if you line up all the cars in the world end-to-end, someone would be stupid enough to try to pass them

Seamus, I know that you are aware of all the shootings and murders that occurred in Harris county over the weekend. As your tongue in cheek post mentions, a tactical shotgun would solve a lot of problems. My question is why do the mayor, sheriff and police chief refuse to admit that there is an epidemic of violence in this county? Murders are sometimes classified as suicides while some are not even classified. They culprits in this madness do so, so that they are able to report lower crime statistics.

I am sure that through registration of the business all crime will cease on those premises.

They are lying to themselves and to the voters. I don't know what they expect to gain by that. The TV stations report every homicide and robbery.

Vote the bums out, if you live there.

Try telling that to the 70 year old guy that got killed

Great..now they can identify the murder...that is if they can catch him

Someone should ask whether the councilmember would be willing to work a shift or two, after dark, in a convenience store, with those provisions in place. I think not.

Clear visibility of the store interior from the street? All that would do is let others see the CS clerk selling cigarettes, girlie magazines, and alcohol to minors. It won't stop the robberies! :banghead:

Of course, the robbers might like it, as they would better be able to "take out" the clerk before entering the store, thus avoid being confronted by an armed clerk. Great idea, HCC!! Ya done it again! :tiphat:

Ha! Stores have to downsize inventory to clear the store front and criminals now get to go window shopping for victims.

Well, I've been pondering the logic in all this and I think that Rokyudai has hit upon the obvious reason behind providing clear visibility. If the stores reduce inventory to provide improved visibility, legit customers won't find what they need and go someplace else to shop. Eventually, the convenience stores will have to close because all the customers have had to go to Kroger to get what they need.

No more convenience stores, equates to no more convenience stores to rob, witch correlates with improved crime statistics. Cleaver!!!!

As to the additional security cameras, one of the council members must have a brother-in-law who is in the security business.

Cunning plan!!

This kind of stuff makes me sick. Goes to show that even without guns and blades the criminals would still be out there killing people. While video cameras might record evidence for later or afford some deterrence...I'd think a "stakeout squad" might show more tangible results.

Now Sheriff Adrian Garcia. That's right. He's now Sheriff of Harris County. I think things are going to get worse before they get better.

Sheriff Garcia's crime fighting ideas are going to get some good people killed.....this is why elections have consequences.

They need to go back to the old "shotgun stakeout squads" the police used in the sixties. San Antonio used them and crimes dropped of DRAMATICALLY!!!
