Post by carlson1 »

I have a Mini 14 that I want the barrel cut, accurized, and a Flash Hider added. Anyone know a GOOD smith in the DFW aea?

Doc Jones in Carrollton (Doc's Gun Shop on Whitlock) is one I've used for years, mostly on handguns. He's one of the few remaining old-time, old fashioned gunsmiths in the area. Altho he works on a variety of guns, he specializes in custom rifles. But, ya best not be in much of a hurry as he's typically pretty booked. And, some folks can be put off by Doc's attitude, a little on the grumpy and/or sarcastic side sometimes, but certain people may perceive me as similar sometimes, so probably no room to talk ...

His shop is roughly two blocks east of I-35 on north side. Take Sandy Lake/Whitlock exit. Heading east, it's in an old white house on the left just before you cross railroad tracks.

Have you fiddled with your Mini-14 any yourself?

I've heard that almost anything that changes the harmonics can improve the accuracy.

I added an Amegarange foreend and a flash hider, either of which might have improved the situation. But I never shot mine enough after that to really determine anything.

BTW, the flash hider I installed was one held in place by the front sight pin.

No I have not done anything to it myself. I want the barrel shortened to 14" and then a permanent flash hider placed on to make it 16".
