i have gone to the tx dps website. am i missing where you check for status because i don't see it?

It's not that easy to find.

The path is as follows:

1. From the main page, click on Concealed Handgun from the "Top 10 DPS links" on the left side.

2. Click on "Apply for a New Concealed Handgun License or Instructor certificate"

3. Click the Continue button on the bottom of the page.

4. Click "Track the status of your application". Make sure you use the top section link and not the one for instructors.

Step 5 - bookmark the page page so you can check your status every 15 minutes or so.

Unfortunately it seems to be working just fine when I check it! It says "Packet Mailed to Applicant" every time I check it! DPS received my paperwork 47 days ago and no change yet.

I could be wrong, but it seems like the website is only updated sporadically, not daily. I say this because it would seem to me that they would include things like Packet Recieved, etc.

Having worked for the State for 14 years in the past, there are better things to do with your time besides wait for anything that would appear to make sense, such as staring at a clock to see if you can actually see the hour hand move.

It took mine right about a month to change from packet mailed to processing application. I would say you could expect the same any day now.

See what I mean? You took your class and mailed it before I did, and yet mine says application processed. Makes no sense. Like I said before, be glad you aint waiting for your CHL in Washington DC, or illinois. Those folks have a looonnnggg wait!


Its entirely possible too that your application is being processed as we speak, and someone just forgot to get the info to the site.

DH is having the same problem. DPS has had his completed renewal since early Feb, and the website still shows Packet Mailed to Applicant. I hope they hurry up!

Where does one go to find the name of the specific person/s in charge of CHL licenses? I have a State Senator, a State Representative and a couple of other folk who may want to say their howdies. Enough is enough.

Nope I don't think you are stupid. I had decided not to post this, but will anyway...

Do yourself a favor, and forget they even have an online tracking system it is a placebo.
They would sure save some phone time if they would update the online system, but that makes sense and does not apply here.

Here is my plight:

1/4/2008 - Online application (They charged my credit card on this date as well)
I didn't think to log the date I received my pin, but it really wasn't that long probably 5-10 days.
1/26/2008 - Took the class
1/29/2008 - Mailed the documentation to DPS
At the date of writing this my status online still says "Packet Mailed to Applicant"
I have called once per week since mid February because I thought it would change to something like "We received packet" NOT.
2/21/2008 - Began Pre-Screen
3/14/2008 - Called DPS got a guy who helped with "We have the packet it is a Pre Screen status. This status started on 2/21 ...."
This is the date they use to start the "60 days".
3/26/2008 - Status online changed to "Processing Application"
4/15/2008 - Status online changed to "Application completed - license issued or certificate active"
4/20/2008 - Received the license in the mail
Update: 3/26/008 - Online status changed to "Processing Application" (my guess I will receive the plastic prior to the next update)

Took 79 days. They have had my money for 102 days.

UPDATE: DH checked his app, and now at last it shows Processing App. So, that is progress, anyway.

UPDATE: At last DH's app shows Completed: Active Issued etc... that got updated sometime between 4/4 and 4/9.

ok i just got off the phone with "simone" at the dps office. according to her they are still waiting on the background check. Last email i got from her on march 18th said the same thing. now! i have a boring life. What is there that i don't know about? oh, wait! there was that one picture from the graduation night after party!!!
