I have nothing but pity on people who think like that...

Nowhere did I read anywhere in John Lott's book, did I see anything that called for, or incited vigilantism...

At that point I got my refund of the time spent looking at that drivle... :leaving

You will not ever convince anyone with that level of arrogance or pseudo-intellect of the true meaning of our freedoms, and the constant sacrifices made to keep them... :patriot: :txflag:

Smells like some kind of parody to me.

Notice how they misquoted the 2A, leaving out the phrase, "..of the people.."?

Then there's the way they critique the idea of having/using a gun in self defense if someone breaks into your home, "...with a knife." They say that, "..rather than relying on our highly trained police force, these people (that's us) believe in some sort of vigilante justice..." and then they go on to smear Lott. They further point out that in defending ourselves with guns, we are ignoring why the person might have broken into our house (with a knife, remember!). Maybe they were a minority, or homeless, etc.

Recreational shooting is criticized because a child, "... might swallow a shotgun shell...".

This stuff is so ludicrous that it makes me think it is intentional. It's hard for me to conceive that anyone could be so ignorant, or such a willful liar. And if anti-gun rights propaganda was the objective, who would be so flat out stupid to publish such drivel?

Self-defense
Perhaps the most common justification is that of "self-defense." Rather than relying on our highly trained police force, these people believe in some sort of vigilante justice, not unlike cowboys and robbers in the old west. Books such as More Guns, Less Crime argue for this.

Suppose a person breaks into your house at night and attacks you with a knife. Now, according to the right-wing point of view, you would be justified in shooting him with the gun you keep hidden under your pillow.

However, it is impossible to truly understand the circumstances leading up to this person's breaking into your house. Perhaps he is a minority. Maybe he was made fun of in school for being a homosexual. He is probably poor. Knowing these facts, how can you, an upper middle class exploiter, be justified in ending this man's life? The answer is: you can't.

In fact this man is homeless and was merely looking for some food to feed his starving family. By killing him in so-called self-defense you are no better than a common murderer.
This is the first part and I was convinced it was a joke. Especially since the phrase "Highly Trained Police Force" is a link to the UN home page. I still think it was written as a parady.

The next part was even funnier talking about a hunter's rifle being a "phallic firearm" and the hunter shoots his "sperm bullet" and the deer "Grunts in Surprise and falls down dead". I mean, this is like a pro shooter Saturday Night Live skit.

The scary part is that the rest of the respondants are too stupid to realize it.

Oh well. Long live the 1st amendment by keeping the 2nd.

I have to agree with you. It was so comical, I assumed it was satire aimed at the liberals.

I'm not sure what to think of it. One of the links on the page links to other anti-gun sites that appear to be legit, Brady, et.al.
Man has been subjugating nature since the Biblical Genesis, and hunting is a symbol of this endless terrorism against nature.
Nevertheless, the above quote proves this guy is misinformed. He acknowledges biblical Genesis and the "subjugating" of "nature" as "terrorism" against God's creation, so we are to assume he is a spiritual man. Well, he only got part of it right...God did give us dominion over creation and entrusted us as stewards of His work, but I think the Almightly himself would be a little offended by the "terrorism" comment about his gift to us.

I suppose the author of the above quote feels so much better about the slaughter at the packing house where a pneumatic device drives a steel pin into the skulls of animals...that's so much better than anyone being in the company of God's creation on a crisp fall morning and taking an animal for the enjoyment of sport and food. (Sarcasm intended)

My best guess is this guy is one of those who believes his "over the top" claims and exaggerations lends him credibility and makes him look smarter than those he is trying to shame. In other words...a smart alec.

O.K. I'm off the soapbox...Just had to vent...I'll leave the sermons to the men of the cloth on board. :tiphat:

Please give a warning before linking to this sort of site.

We should all keep in mind, though those on the left seem not to, that foreign powers pay people to influence the American population thru the web.
