The tax stamp for SBR (short barreled rifle) is $200. A Class III dealer will have to do the transfer. The paperwork can take anywhere from weeks to months for ATF approval.

Since this was a trade show, I doubt they're shipping working models yet, but you could contact Magpul to inquire about pricing and availability. The price is guaranteed to be much higher than it should be, due to the market restraint caused by government regulations. If not for the NFA restrictions, I'd guess it would sell in the $1,000-1,500 range. Because of NFA, I imagine it will be more like $2,500-3,000.

Not necessarily! Depends on where you live. There are several methods that can be used. The paperwork requires the signature of the chief law enforcement officer for the area where you live. Typically, this is either the chief of police for incorporated areas and the sheriff for unincorporated. There are a few more officials than CAN sign, but typically don't.

If you are unable to secure that signature, there is a provision for corporations to acquire class III and also trusts.

I cringe when I see Class III dealers at Houston area shows making promises to customers when there is typically no way they're going to get the signature after plunking down their cash.

Law enforcement officers usually have no problem and if you are politically connected you might be good.
