Why do Online Application?

Post by Lobo73 »

I did an online application thinking that it would speed processing time, but that has proven not to be the case. Is there any advantage to applying online? The only thing is you get your pin# faster, but then that just causes you to check on something routinely that never moves anyway. So why online apply? Let's hear it from the ya'll that made the same mistake as me.

Handwriting. I much prefer typing than writing.

Paying by CC instead of MO. At least it used to be that way...

Bingo on both. There was the hope as well that it might be faster, but that's proving to be a false hope apparently.

I didn't make a mistake by applying online. I got exactly what I expected.

I did mine on-line back in late December '07. Had license in hand in just over 11 weeks. When I emailed a query after 5 weeks with no indication of receipt on the DPS web site, the reply was that it is taking 30 days for new applications to be entered into the system.

Al Gore invented it, but Ted Stevens explained to the world how it all works:
(the second paragraphs seems to be describing the CHL office)

Ted Stevens wrote: Ten movies streaming across that, that Internet, and what happens to your own personal Internet? I just the other day got... an Internet was sent by my staff at 10 o'clock in the morning on Friday, I got it yesterday [Tuesday]. Why? Because it got tangled up with all these things going on the Internet commercially.
[...] They want to deliver vast amounts of information over the Internet. And again, the Internet is not something that you just dump something on. It's not a big truck. It's a series of tubes. And if you don't understand, those tubes can be filled and if they are filled, when you put your message in, it gets in line and it's going to be delayed by anyone that puts into that tube enormous amounts of material, enormous amounts of material.

The application doesn't get processed any quicker but they do get your money a lot quicker.

The only benefit is if you have bad penmanship or type really fast.

I think people are confused about the on-line system. It is only a way to type your information into the forms. When you sign up on-line you get pay with a credit card and get your CHL license number and PIN. The actual application review process doesn't begin until DPS receives your packet with signed forms, TR 100, photos and fingerprints, etc.

DPS takes personal checks now.
If you can read this, thank a teacher. If it's on the internet, thank a geek.
