HELLO & QUESTION

Post by DAKOTA DOG »

new to the forum... nice site!

Here's my question: I just went to the Texas DPS website and filled out the info for my renewal. It mentioned that they will send something to me in the mail and charged me $70.00. What is it that they are sending and what needs to be done on my part?

Thanks for your assistance.

You will receive a completed application to sign, FBI fingerprint card, photo holder, three affidavits to sign and the latest DPS book. You have to take a 4 hr. renewal course, then send in all the paperwork, along with two photos and the TR-100 training certificate you will receive in your renewal class.

Welcome to the forum.

Thank you Charles.

I am in the North San Antonio area. I a looking for someone who can recommend a class/instructor to finalize everything. Hopefully I ill have the completed paperwork by next week. Also, my CHL expired yesterday. Does this pose an issue?

Hi Dakota,

Welcome to the Forum.

The expiration of your CHL does not pose any problem in regards to your ability to obtain another. But it does mean that you can not legally carry your weapon under authority of a CHL.

Basically, until you take the renewal course and receive your new CHL, you may not carry any longer... (except as the law allows for any other non licensed person).

Don't wait too long or you'll have to take the full 10 hour class instead of the short renewal class!
If you can read this, thank a teacher. If it's on the internet, thank a geek.

Staying Alive is who I got my CHL through. Good people, there were some re-quals there when I was taking my initial class.

I got my initial and first renewal in San Antonio from Sammy Miller: http://www.concealedhandgun.com/

He's an LEO, friendly and effective, brings in a district attorney and a judge to cover some aspects of the law. Recommended.
