Chronograph results with PM-9

A buddy and I had the chronograph set up late yesterday checking some long gun loads and I decided to burn the 6+1 "carry loads" in the Kahr PM-9. The 7-shot string of 124 grain (standard pressure 9mm) Speer Gold Dots averaged 1041 fps.

Not bad from the short little short tube! This looked especially good after I went back and checked prior notes with .38 125 grain Gold Dots thru the Smith 340. They managed only 785 fps out of the 1 7/8" pipe. And Winchester 125 grain 38+P JHPs had only managed 809 fps from the snub.

I've read here and there about Speer's semi-new "short barrel" Gold Dot loads, but have not readily located any through local sources. And now, based upon the 1041 fps out of the .355 X 3" pipe, don't see any real hurry to do so.

Thanks for sharing the info. Greybeard. Its nice to hear that Speers GD's perform pretty well out of a 3 in. barrel (in terms of FPS). I special ordered a PM-9 from a local dealer this weekend after not being able to locate one at several locations. Should be here in a week. I hope it turns out to be reliable as heck, as Im still getting over the nausea of paying more for this little gun than I did for my Sig P239 .40 S&W.

Yep, they are proud of 'em.

Since break-in, mine has ran 100% with everything I've fed it. And it's quite accurate - for no more sight radius than the operator has to work with ...

' Hope you enjoy. Sure a lot lighter and flatter than the Sig.

Thanks, that is reassuring to hear. And your right, it certainly is much lighter, smaller, and flatter than the Sig. Much easier and more comfortable to conceal.

' Glad ya found of value. Chrono is kinda handy sometimes for sorting out the truth from the trash ...

It's been my experience that mfgrs. often "stretch" the fps a bit and/or use longer barrel lengths to arrive at what they put on the boxes. The same session, we put some 240 grain .454 XTPs thru the chrono. Box says 1900 fps (prior box said 2000!). The string we shot Sunday averaged real close to 1800 out of 7 1/2" SBH ...
