A 63-year-old woman fired a shot to scare off an unknown man who broke into her Friendswood home Saturday morning, authorities said.

The woman was sleeping in a first-story bedroom of her home in the 400 block of Regency about 11:15 a.m. when she heard a loud noise and then her home alarm system sounded. She then heard footsteps going to the second floor, authorities said.

After grabbing her pistol, the woman told investigators she walked into her living room and found a man standing near the back door inside the residence.

She then fired a single shot in the direction of the intruder, authorities said.

The man ran through through a glass door — shattering it — in his attempt to flee the house, authorities said. The woman was unharmed.

Officers searched the surrounding area, but were unable to find the the man.

He is described as a well-groomed, clean-shaven man with short hair who is between 5 feet 6 inches and 5 feet 9 inches tall. He was last seen wearing a blue T-shirt with white lettering, dark shorts and dark-colored tennis shoes.

Anyone with information about this incident is urged to contact the Friendswood Police Department at 281-996-3300.

Yeah, heading north at light speed while screaming "we need gun control in Texas!"

I hope she gets her glass door fixed soon. I'm glad she's okay.

Too bad codes require safety glass.

I'm staying out of yer "hood" for a while...And I am certainly not going to wear anything like what this goober did there either...

Is it just me, or does 11:15am yesterday morning just seem a bit odd of a time to do this???

Its either me, or this is another prime example of the Houston Comical needing to send a few reporters back to school or something...They got everything description-wise on the suspect except a few personal things about who or what he was...

I noticed the readers remarks down on the articles page at the link, they were asking the same thing, but in a more...How you say, "non-10 year old daughter safe" manner...

He would be easy to pick out due to a large brown stain on back of pants

There has been several mid to late morning home break-ins recently. Just an observation, don't know if anything can be made of it. Howver, it could be a trend?

My house got broken into in Friendswood too... Of course, they were met face to face with my 110lb German Shepherd... They were kind enough to close the back door as they ran away... Unfortunately, we weren't there...

The Chronicle goes above and beyond in helping to keep Houston safe.

Maybe it is just me, but couldn't have they given us a few more details? Things like race, skin color, complexion, hair color, eyes, age, weight, build etc.? Political correctness will be the death of America.

late morning/mid-day break-ins were common in a nicer area of Huffman in December. They are also common in Kingwood. I suspect that this is b/c they assume the armed homeowner will not be present.
