I'm a senior at Texas State University in San Marcos, and as it is the week of our Students for Concealed Carry on Campus debate, I thought you might find interest in this piece from NBC Nightly News (4/18).

Re: An interesting (and suprisingly unbiased) NBC piece...
While it looks like NBC was a little sceptical, at least the first announcer was kind enough to say "Carry on campus legally". I have seen other news reports where they just say, "Carry on campus" as if we wanted to arm every student and teacher and wish them luck. I just wish we could get rid of hoplophobia and educate people about why we need self-defense weapons.
Also glad to know I'm not the only one from this site participating on this. UT San Antonio here.

Oh God, don't I know. It makes me sooooooo sick. Yes, that many O's were necessary. I was waiting outside my Spanish IV class last week and some sheep says to a girl, "Jesus, can you believe these people want everyone to start carrying guns around on campus?" I almost vomited.Monkey404error wrote:While it looks like NBC was a little sceptical, at least the first announcer was kind enough to say "Carry on campus legally". Russell wrote:Not bad at all. I wore my SCCC shirt today. I will probably wash it tomorrow and wear it Thursday as well (different classes on T-Th, so different people will see me in the shirt).
I had a professor ask what my shirt was for, as well as my boss today (I work on campus.) The professor noticed it when a student sitting next to me said "Students for Concealed Carry on Campus? That's cool" and mentioned that he wants to get his CHL sometime soon. She heard the "concealed" and put two and two together and asks the guy sitting next to me "You don't have a gun do you?!" as her eyes get big.He said "Not with me, but I have several at home!"

My boss asked me to turn around so she could read the back of my shirt. I have the one that says Front: "What you dont see..." Back: "...could save your life" and it has a gun at about 5 o'clock. I have also talked to her about CHL's and her *maybe* getting hers, but she is afraid she wouldn't be able to use it if she had to. I told her to come to me whenever she feels she may be ready and I will direct her to these forums, as well as to http://www.corneredcat.com/.
I printed out information sheets and fliers from concealedcampus.org and am ready to pass them out/refer to them if anybody asks or is skeptical enough to attempt to debate me on facts. I refuse to debate anybody on personal opinion or choice.
I could feel my blood boiling though when I was listening to the mother. "He had the element of surprise, he had 2 guns, the fear that grips you is paralyzing".
Give me a break. Sure, I bet it would be scary to have to defend yourself. But is it really better to lay down in a fetal position and wait to die instead of having a chance to save your life, and the lives of everybody else around you?
Can you say "Baaa. Baaaa!"
I feel for her - I am very sorry that her life was turned upside down because of this.
But, when she makes a comment like - Armed and well intentioned students would be no match for an armed gunman like the one that shot her daughter....
It angers me that people would rather curl up and wait to be murdered. That statement was... (I'm sorry) just plain stupid!
“If you try to shoot me, I will have to shoot you back, and I promise you I won’t miss!”
