Calrification on Amusement Parks and Sporting Events
I recently took my son to the Toyota Center in Houston so see a show on dinosuars. Am I correct in saying that it was OK for me to carry my handgun (I'm a CHL) to that event but it would not be OK if the Rockets were playing?
How about Reliant Stadium for the Rodeo versus for a Texans game?
I did not carry during a recent trip to Seaworld in San Antonio since I thought it came under amusement parks but did not see any 30.06 signs posted.

Toyota center has 30.06 signs. Other than that, your understanding of the distinction between a show and a professional sporting event is correct.
Reliant Stadium is owned by the city of Houston and I haven't seen a report of it being posted. You would be OK there except while attending a professional rodeo performance. (Good luck figuring out which performances are professional.)
Sea World is one of the three places that fits the definition of amusement park in PC 46.035, but it is not posted (last I heard). They do search bags and will tell you to leave if they detect a weapon.

Can Toyota Center be legitimately posted 30.06? Their webpage says that they are owned by Harris County - Houston Sports Authority.

No, but if they catch you, and you're still there when the cops arrive, you're takin' a ride. Someone on this forum either wrote to or called Toyota Center about this, and their chief of security basically said they didn't care what the law says.
It is Harris County, and the stink left by the recently resigned DA will not disperse for a while.

Thanks! I missed the 30.06 signs at Toyota.
They searched bags and purses but not people.
At Sea World they also searched bags and purses but not people.

Re: Calrification on Amusement Parks and Sporting Events
If they hold any sort of professional sporting event at the Toyota Center I think that in itself makes the place off limits while the event is going on. Professional sporting events are listed in the law as a specific catagory where CHL carry is banned, right?
I would agree that they don't have legal authority to post 30.06 when/if some other kind of event is being held there (unless the county sublets the place to an event operator, IMO - but we've been through all that a hundred times before.)

I put it in the trunk when I went to The Dinosaurs. I didnt think they would search (they didnt) but I wasnt sure if they had detectors. Wish someone would sue and get the signs removed.

It is no wonder that young folks often don't respect our laws and its enforcment officers.. When folks from the government don't care what the law says, how can we expect respect from our youth?seamusTX wrote:No, but if they catch you, and you're still there when the cops arrive, you're takin' a ride. True enough. Kids may not pay close attention to the news, but the attitude percolates down to them.
I experienced this when I was a kid. The police would confiscate fireworks from kids that they caught lighting them, then set them off on the 4th of July.
