Car wax on magazines

Post by Jeremae »

So

How many of you use car wax (nu-brite) on your magazines? JP was showing a couple of us some tips and pointed out how slick his mags were.

I have a spray can of a cleaner/wax so I tried it on both my Wilson 47ds and the mags for my son's cz75b. There was an improvement on the stainless wilsons and a MARKED improvement on the painted cz mags.

I use a Ruger P95; the polymer-stainless combination has never needed lubrication. Mags just drop free and I've never had an issue. For metal on metal or paint/powdercoat on metal, yeah, I'd want to do something like this.

Be aware that cleaning wax is not as durable as a traditional waxing compound. Something like Turtle Wax cures into a relatively tough shell (that's the point). Cleaning waxes are water-repellent so they help keep dirt from sticking, but they're softer compounds. All this means is that you'll need to re-apply more often in a situation like this.

I use armor all when I think about it.....it does slick things up a bit on the polymer. I also understand that it could prevent sun damage to my mags :biggrinjester:

Tutrle wax is out in shed but this spray cleaner/wax was in closet when I decided to give waxed magazines a whirl. Since I clean my magazines after every use, I don't need quite as tough a wax shell as turtle wax would provide. Besides I want to avoid waxy buildup that takes Mr. Clean to remove... :biggrinjester:

With the waxed magazines I have not had to resort to a "Glock Reload" with the cz. In fact I can have the gun rotated to where the well is almost parrallel to the ground and the mags pop right out. I was worried I might have some trouble handling the mags if they were slick but no fumbling (new caused by slipping versus usual caused by user) has occurred.

I was curious to know if an Gl**k shooters had tried this and how well it worked in a polymer on polymer situation.

Never tried... my glock mags always drop free with the push of the ole button every time.. all the time..

Ugly as sin... but would bet my life on its reliability.
