how about a camera on the officer himself that can be worn like a badge. It records constantly to a flash drive. It can connect via blu-tooth to a drive in the car so that it automatically dumps the data whenever the small bodyworn device gets full. It can be programmed to start recording whenever it loses it's blu-tooth link so basically, if the officer steps out of the car, the recording starts. The camera would be IR capable so lights are not needed or if they are, it can be infra-red which cannot be seen by the BG.

When the car comes in for a shift change, then all the car drives get uploaded to the mainframe via a secure wireless link.

Makes more sense than putting a camera on a gun. This looks too much like the cameras that record the kills on fighter planes.

But hey, what do I know? I'm one of those gun nuts.
