Post by G.A. Heath »

I want to see how many people know about this one right now (a lot I hope).

Oh, and I do want to brag aout getting it.

First person to identify it exactly will get to shoot it with me if they come to my county.
How do you explain a dog named Sauer without first telling the story of a Puppy named Sig?

its the new XDm-40. Has two features of the Smith and Wesson M&P series pistols that I wanted after handling one at the local LEO range. The first feature is the interchangeable back straps. The second, and most important is the ability to field strip w/o dry firing. Springfield has this one perfect as there is no internal lever to move in order to disengage the sear. I changed the photo so the markings are no longer covered up (you may need to refresh your browsers).

supposedly the 9mm should be out now or very very soon. The .45ACP should follow in six months to a year.

The M version has a larger magazine capacity, too, doesn't it? They're "official" premier is this weekend at the NRA conference in Kentucky. I understand the regular XD will continue to be manufactured, and the M version will be a bit more expensive.

I got out to shoot it today, and here's what stands out to me more than anything else:
No need to dry fire for take down (SA does a better job at this than S&W did on the M&P).
Interchangeable back straps (The M&P has a better system for quick changes, the XD(m) is better for long term configuration).
The guide rod and spring are more 1911 like (full length), allowing you to replace just the spring.
Mine was dead center accurate out of the box.
Trigger pull is just sweet (One of the best factory triggers I have ever squeezed).
The balance is a little front heavy for my taste, but not very much.
It features new 16 round magazines, older XD mags will not work (I need to find one more extra mag).
It has a REAL nice case.

It cost a little over $600 with tax and all (Purchased at West Texas Military Surplus in Lubbock Texas).

I have the XD9SC and the XD45 4" compact.

I find that the XD9SC is perfactly balanced in my hand. It feels like it is part of my hand.

I find that the 45 is front heavy.

Just my .02.

They are a 16 round match grade pistol. They look sweet felt a few at the gun show this weekend.
