Dirty Taurus

All you experts on the new good stuff to clean w/......help, Help, HELP.
I just bought a dirty, leaded up, even some dried sandy mud, tackle box gun.
I dont think it has ever been cleaned.

The lead is my big ???? What do you guys suggest.
What about this break free. I have never used it.

Speak to me please.

If you can get some Kano Kroil, soak it in that. It seems to penetrate REALLY well and loosen any deposits left. A stiff brush will usually remove the residue. You may need a couple of treatments if it is really bad.

Any oilfield supply store around you will have Kroil on the shelf.

I have never used Kroil, but I can identify with leading. I had a Ruger Security Six that had probably fired thousands of .38 spl rounds without the chambers being properly cleaned. It was too leaded up to allow .357 mags to load. I soaked patches with Hoppes 9 and filled the tubes for several hours, then used a cut off piece of a cleaning rod in a drill with a stainless steel brush - ONLY IN THE CYLINDER CHAMBERS (the steel brush is not a friend of the lands and grooves of your barrel). I was able to get the lead rings completely out of the chambers this way. The barrel took hours of work soaking with Hoppes 9, dozens of patches and 2 brass bore brushes. There's gotta be a better way.

How about a soaking in a tub of "Ed's Red"? I've read about it, and I know there are several on here that use it. It may help to loosen all the years of built up crud. And, it's supposed to leave a protective film of some sorts on the gun. That may help protect it in the future if you intend to use is as a "tackle box gun" as well. I find it kinda funny, though. I was actually just considering a Taurus 85 for my own "tackle box gun". Let me know how it works out for you, LT.

I think Ed's Red is a formula that has to be mixed up. As far as it being a tackle box gun for me My son in law actually took me fishing yesterday. He & our daughter have been married 12 yrs. We even talked about this & he said he remembered that when he started dating her I did not have a fishing pole of any kind then. I do buy a combo liscense every yr so I was legal.
This will be a clean up closet gun for the wite in case of a bump in the night. Set it there & 2yrs later it will still be reliable.
