Gun Case Foam

Post by HOSSISFREE »

Nobody asked for this, but thaught I'd shre what I found. I am in the process of making a custom gun case. After buying the manilla colored foam from Hobby Lobby and trying to dye it gray with no luck, I have finally found the charcoal foam needed to make cutouts for my guns and magazines.

Maybe someone else can find this useful.

OK, I have to ask.
If you are satisfied with the thickness, etc of the tan foam....what does the color matter?

I was forced during the evacuation to figure out a way to move all of my weapons safely without dinging them all up.....I came up with the idea of using the tan foam to separate my guns inside of a standard double scoped rifle case. I situated my pistols to fit and snaked the foam inbetween. This was by no means a fancy or ideal case but I was able to account for all of my guns and they got back to Texas City in one piece. Just wondered what the deal was with color. Thanks!

I am making a top notch custom case for transport of my weapons to the range and such. I'm a perfectionist, and the tan color isn't exactly what a gun case is made with. Besides that, tan doesn't match the silver metal case, or the charcoal foam bottom and top in the case. Tan also shows every mark from powder and oil where the charcoal will mask it to a degree. It doesn't have to be charcoal to function. It's the aesthetics of the project.

Hossisfree,

Thanks for posting the info. I need some charcoal colored eegcrate foam to redo and old case. I looked off and on, Hobby Lobby, Academey, Cloth World, no luck so far.

You might be suprised what you can make into a gun case with some foam.

Thans for posting. I too am making a custom case and this beats the white stuff my wife brought home for me (in case she is reading, no offence dear, it just shows powder and dirt).

I understand.....thank you!
I thought that the quality of the two were somehow different. I would love to build a case for my rifles....I guess I will add this to the list. Thanks for the foam link! Take care.
