Charles Cotton has said, essentially, that a school group on an outing does not constitute a roving no-carry zone: http://www.texasshooting.com/TexasCHL_F ... =7&t=15587
There's no history of anyone being arrested in such a situation. You would have to do something pretty rash or stupid even to come to the attention of the police.
Enjoy your visit.

Re: So, I am in Galveston...
This would essentially make museums and zoos off limits by proxy. I've never been to one when there wasn't some sort of school activity going on. I'd think as long as you weren't part of the school group, you'd be good to go.
As always, my thinking of gray areas is this: Keep it concealed and no one knows anyway. If you do need to use it in self defense, I think your life is more expensive than a lawyer.

Another similar situation would be, that if you are somewhere where you are legal to be carrying, and the President of the United States comes in to sit with you to have a "chat"...(i.e.: a political campaign diner stop)seamusTX wrote:Charles Cotton has said, essentially, that a school group on an outing does not constitute a roving no-carry zone: http://www.texasshooting.com/TexasCHL_F ... =7&t=15587

Do you not see where I would have this little smirk on my face knowing something that no one else could possibly know about???
And the shocking thing about that would be...

Re: So, I am in Galveston...
This part of the law probably needs to be clarified...personally I would not have disarmed.
I think the intent of the law is to limit carry around kids in areas of the school that would normally not be off limits, or to limit carry by persons who might chaperone a school sponsored event. For example, if a group of kids is having a bake sale in the parking lot of the school, the parking lot itself is not normally off limits for CHLs but could arguably be because of the bake sale or if a CHL decides to help out in the sale.
However, if this line of reasoning is used in the situation of a museum or other public place, the intent of the law breaks down and creates a situation where at any given moment a CHL could be placed in jeopardy for essentially minding his own business. What if I'm in McDonald's eating a bite and halfway through my meal, a busload of kids come in from John Moses Browning High School. Do I scramble out of there because that constitutes a school sponsored event? What if I'm in the mall and a group from the local elementary come in to see the Easter Bunny? I just don't see the later two examples being the intent of the law unless I'm part of the group.
My 2 cents.
