Re: Taurus PT 1911
My son has one, and I've fired it several times. His is the AR version with the accessory rail.
My impressions:
1. Very accurate, all though I don't personally like the "straight 8" sights. My son flat wears out bullseyes with it.
2. No FTF's from day one, and has functioned very reliably except for one failure (see #4).
3. Every so often, the ambidextrous safety on the right side of the frame shoots loose, and it takes a vinyl dowel and a mallet to tap it back into place.
4. At about 500-600 rounds of "practice" type ammo like the Winchester White Box, the slide stop pin broke right in half. (A MIM part)
5. A lot of gun for the $599 we paid for it, but not perfect.
Hope that helps.

Re: Taurus PT 1911
saw a review on youtube for it i have heard that the safety lever breaks for lefties. i like 911 but am not willing to shell out a lot of money for one i would only be using it for a target pistol and not a defense pistol.

Why on earth would you say this?mwadibe wrote:saw a review on youtube for it i have heard that the safety lever breaks for lefties. i like 911 but am not willing to shell out a lot of money for one i would only be using it for a target pistol and not a defense pistol.
I just bought my fourth PT1911 and prefer it over my two Springfields and my Kimber.
I bought three of the blued ones in the Fall of 2006 and traded one to a friend for a Hi-Power.
At the last Pasadena show, I bought one of the stainless models.
The new one has only been shot 3 boxes, but like the others, is 100%.
So I'm very pleased with the three I still own and definitely use them for carry.
Out of eight 1911's that I have purchased brand new, only the four PT1911's have never had a malfunction.
The two Springfields (Stainless Loaded 5", Champion 4"), Kimber Eclipse Pro II, and Kahr Auto Ordnance 5" have all given me grief.

Re: Taurus PT 1911
I gave these a good look at since they came on the scene a couple of years ago...I believe Taurus has improved their products expotentially over recent history...Since my wife bought her first handgun PT24/7 9mm, I've given Taurus alot of credit...
I do not think anyone would do wrong by taking the keys to one of these firearms...

Re: Taurus PT 1911
I own one, have carried it, I have it in my carry rotation. Overall impression is the finish is less than satisfactory, slide to frame fit is a bit loose, accuracy is pretty good, feel is pretty good, reliability is good (dependant upon magazines). Would I buy another, yeah, almost did the other day. What would/have I change(d) about mine? Hammer (I hate the OEM lock in the hammer rig), finish, grips (Almost none of my guns have OEM grips), and finally I prefer a GI style safety over the ambi and extended setup.

Re: Taurus PT 1911
where is a good place in dallas to get one or does anyone have one they dont want anymore
Re: Taurus PT 1911
You could check with Bachmann's Pawn and see what their store price is or you can hit the next gun show.
There are variations of the PT1911 that can affect the price.
There are blued, base models (show price around $475)
blued, with sight rail (show price around $510)
blued, with night sites (show price around $520)
blued, with laser grips (show price around $550)
stainless (show price around $550)
stainless, with sight rail (show price around $565)
This should at least let you know if you're getting a good price.
If you get the blued, G.A. Heath is correct about the finish. I bought my blued ones with the intention of eventually having them refinished, so this was not an issue.

Re: Taurus PT 1911
I have one, shot about 100 rounds through it so far. It is my first 1911. I carry it at times, but with the heat right now, I don't carry it much. The only thing that I don't like about it is the sights. I just dont like the "stright 8" sights. But that can be changed. Like others have said the finish is not the greatest, but I knew that going in. So for me, its not a big deal. Would I buy another? Maybe not a 5" gun, but if they were to make a 4", then yes. I just can not see having 2 of the same gun. It works for others, but just not for me.

Re: Taurus PT 1911
I currently have two PT1911's in my 1911 stable. I have accurized them both and have changed out the series 80 ignition parts with Wilson Combat series 70 replacements. Both have Ed Brown hammers. Yea, I have put some money into the inexpensive 1911's but have unbelievably accurate and reliable pistols for far less than I spent on the other 4 I own. The blued PT has been refinished with a ceramic coat in black. The stainless needs no refinishing. These two are my daily carries while the Kimbers and Wilson remain in the safe.

I've seen them at Academy for $569. I bought mine at the Tyler Gun Show for $505 last April.

Yes I would, I'm kinda' waiting on the PT1911 Compact to come out later this year.
