First timers question

Post by kalipsocs »

Hey guys. New to this thing and really, really don't want to hold this thing up as they are already backed up as it is!

1.) I am 22 now. When I was 15 I was "detained" overnight for being in a car with a couple guys playing mailbox baseball. I never got a ticket or ever saw a judge, just had to go back to the Tarrant County Juvenile Detention Center and have a "talk" with a case worker. Anyway, I got 1 sheet of paper regarding the whole thing which has since burnt up in a house fire. It says to provide documentation of judgments and sentence from court....but since I never went to court? I am really confused on that situation because of the circumstances. There is still something on my juvenile record because I gave the detention center a call and a gentleman spouted off all sorts of info, but yea.....dunno so advice is appreciated. It would be hard to get a hold of those documents because I live in Hays county right now and they said I had to show up to request them :???: .

2.) I signed the photo holder thing with a black felt permanent marker (like a Sharpie). Stupid I know cause it isn't the clearest, but anyone think this will be an application delaying issue? Should I ask DPS for another?

Thats all I have for now. Thanks guys

I think anything that was a misdemeanor when you were a juvenile would not be an issue now. (IMHO)

Anything you "signed" as a juvenile has no legal bearing, as you cannot enter into any contracts until you reach the age of majority. I think the only thing that can carry over is a felony charge if you were tried as an adult or if the charge was dropped to manslaughter and you were charged as a juvenile.

I think you're fine. =-]

I had a similar situation as yours (a fistfight between consenting parties and a misunderstanding between my folks about my whereabouts one weekend which resulted in being a runaway  ), I simply went to the department and requested a printout of the records. I did have to present identification in order to ensure it was really me requesting the records. Sadly, this method of dealing with juvenile mischief has replaced the officer taking you to your home, telling your folks what you have been up to and leaving you to your parents devices. In my case, and sounds like yours as well, the charges against me were dropped (I can not recall the official disposition) but I did include the printout I received for good measure.

I too think you will be fine.

The only way this could be a problem for getting your CHL is if you were convicted of felony grade juvenile delinquent conduct. Doesn't sound like that was the case. DPS understands it is difficult for you to get copies of your juvenile records, and is usually willing to cut you a little slack on those documents. Put the arrest on your application, write a brief description of the outcome, as you have done here, and let them take it from there.

The photo holder is supposed to be signed with a felt tip pen. You did fine.

Thanks guys.Yea guess I should have mentioned that the charge was a B Misdemeanor. That was the charge, but I know for sure there was no conviction because I saw a case worker, no judge. Might be a pain in the butt to get a hold of that document but guess I should throw it in for good measure. Thanks so much guys hopefully I can get this application off by Friday.....I am a broke college kid so I am having to do all the leg work myself. Will keep everyone posted and thanks again for the help!

If it was Tarrant County Start Here: http://www.tarrantcounty.com/eCountyCle ... efault.asp

Ask how to get a certified case disposition, (it will cost about $10). You need to know your info (SS#, DOB, Name) and the year the issue occurred.
