Post-Shooting Interview - Worth Watching!!
On 6/4/2008, a 70-year-old in Louisville was busted in on by two men (one armed). He tells the story in his own words in this interview.
This is worth watching in its entirety. It has a VERY vital lesson he says in his own words, which I quoted below. If nothing else can be gleaned from this, then please just take the quote to heart. This is important for anyone who carries a weapon for self-defense or anyone who breathes air.

"And the only thing we can learn... That can happen to any of us, at any time. And there's nothing you can do if you don't react quickly and have something to defend yourself with. I would be dead if I didn't."
There are some negatives (opening the door w/o checking who it is, talking to the Police w/o a Lawyer present, talking to the press prior to any court proceedings, etc), but please make sure you get the message before you start commenting. Thanks.

WOW! I could only hope that I would react with the same speed and wits that he demonstrated. Man, that makes me want to head to the shooting range right now for more practice.

Amazing interview. I wonder how it could be/will be edited to slant the story. I am amazed how he can still refer to the people who were going to rob and kill him and his wife as "gentlemen" and how much he is sorry and concerned for the families of the people who were going to kill him. Wow!

Re: Post-Shooting Interview - Worth Watching!!
I sent it to my Grandmother and my Mom, both who are very much against guns in the home.
My Grandmother didn't bother watching it, saying that she didn't need to because there's no way she or my Grandfather could draw it fast enough if the need arose. Plus, she's very much against taking a life, even to save her own. I came back with defending her great-grandchildren, but she hasn't responded yet...
My Mom asked if I wanted to carry around a gun all the time. I laughed and said that I already do. I think this really stunned her and she asked for how long. I told her that every time she's seen me for the past 3 years, it's been on me. She hadn't watched it yet, but told me she would.

Just google senior citizen shoots intruder, and you will find a whole bunch of people who have defended their home or business with a gun. A gun is the only equalizer for people who are unable to fight back otherwise, women, elderly, disabled, or otherwise incapacitated.BigDan wrote:I sent it to my Grandmother and my Mom, both who are very much against guns in the home.

Re: Post-Shooting Interview - Worth Watching!!
Watching that interview really brings home the powerful affects that carrying a hangun can have on your life. I do feel for that man. He seems like an incredibly nice person, and I am 100% convinced him killing those two men was justified. But watching him in the interview, with the slight studder here, and the shaking hands there, the hesitations at time in his story, the tremble in his voice, you could see that his life has been changed. In fact, he even said that he is suffering more than the parents of the individuals he shot and killed, and I fully believe him. Even though he wasn't killed (which he probably would have been if he had not been carrying), he walked away from that experience emotionally damaged.
It seems to me that the wife and or parents of attackers who are killed while committing a criminal offense are so quick to bring a civil lawsuit against the guy who defended himself and shot and killed their husband/son. Why can't the guy who shot and killed the attacker, bring a civill lawsuit against the wife/parents of the attacker for the emmotional distress he will now have to live with.

I wonder if he had a round in the chamber or if he had a chance to rack the slide?
:)
My heart really goes out to that guy. He reminds me a lot of my grandfather. He did the right thing and did an amazing job at it.

Re: Post-Shooting Interview - Worth Watching!!
That's exactly what I thought. My Grandfather was in World War II, in the Pacific. He's 80 now, but is still quite able to get around, etc. The only thing they've changed in the 20 years they've lived there is put the braces on the doors at night (the ones that go under the doorknob and use friction on the floor). There are tons of sliding glass doors, lots of windows. I'm not even sure they could hear the glass break anymore with their hearing loss. =-/LedJedi wrote:He reminds me a lot of my grandfather.

I am not sure if this is a rhetorical question. If it is not, because the wife/parents didn't do anything to harm him.BigBlueDodge wrote:Why can't the guy who shot and killed the attacker, bring a civill lawsuit against the wife/parents of the attacker for the emmotional distress he will now have to live with.

It's is a rhetorical question, which is hard to pick up in the printed word.

It's a cool video. It was previously posted here a couple of weeks ago.

I'm impressed with the guy! His military training, quick thinking and a little luck (having the gun on him) saved his and his wife's lives. How can an anti argue with this scenario?
I know, I know, they will always find a reason to make the good guy look bad and the bad guys look like victims.
I would love to sit down with this guy over a cup of coffe and breakfast to just talk. He seems like a really great guy.
