The KTRH talk station in Houston is already gearing up to fight concealed carry in university buildings. At the top of every hour today they mention that "some people" want to run around campus with concealed weapons and then dedicated the rest of the news time to some sheriff unashamedly parroting anti fear mongering of a wild west shootout involving CHL holders and the police. I am exaggerating a bit, but it was pretty bad.
So it begins.

Back in 1963, George Wallace blocked the door to Foster Auditorium at the University of Alabama to deny students' civil rights...

Re: College Carry
Yeah I heard it too. I think he said something to the effect of "CHLs aren't trained to the extent that police are." He's correct. We're not trained to arrest, detain, fill out loads of paperwork, administer DUI tests, or drive in pursuit. We're trained to defend ourselves and others only. I get his intended point though. Strike one.
He also mentioned that there's no way to determine who is a CHL and who isn't. I believe that the law says law enforcement agencies have access to the database. You won't know a CHL by looking anyway. Also, if there is a problem, the CHL will be the one who stops shooting before having a chance to be brought down. Strike two.
He also gave the impression that there would be open carry, with police spending too much time asking everyone to see their CHLs, and it would take time away from more important matters. I think the "C" means concealed, bud. Strike three.
Really now, DPS and city police all over the state deal with this on a daily basis, and somehow, they manage just fine. I think the chief and his guys all graduated from the same academies the non-campus police did, so there's no reason they can't make it work too. He's just an idiot. There is no cure for idiot, only treatment.
