D.C. Gun Registration Begins Tommorow

Post by lawrnk »

http://blog.washingtonpost.com/dc/2008/ ... _star.html
District Gun Registration Starts Tomorrow
D.C. police will start the gun registration process at 7 a.m. tomorrow, when it opens an office at police headquarters at 300 Indiana Ave. NW.

It is the start of the 180-day amnesty period in which residents may register handguns they have had illegally, or guns from other states.

An officer from the gun unit will meet the applicant at the door and take temporary possession of the gun to ensure safety at headquarters.

Officers will tag the gun and run ballistics tests before returning it to the owner. Paperwork indicating that registration is in process will be provided.

About 14 days later, after an FBI background check, the gun will be officially registered.

I took my wife's girlfriends hubby to PSC a few weeks ago, hoping to make him a member. He appears to want to join. He shows me his Illinois ID to allow him to buy ammo as he is a transplant, and professes his love for Obama. I have no idea how to react to these people. Part of me wants to smack him, the other part wants to punch him. The drive home was frankly uncomfortable. I simply am non-partisan like, unable to simply digest the logic? Someone, a yankee? Explain? It's akin to a jew voting for David Duke. I try, repeatedly to understand...

As a former inmate of Illinois, I can explain that it's hard to adjust to freedom.

It's one of the reason why so many criminals commit new crimes as soon as they are released. They can't handle the freedom and want to go back.

I like to think that I have adjusted quite well.

I am also a former Illinois transplant, but the thing I get/got a kick out of is that in IL they at least allowed me to own handguns, where my previous state of residence, New York, did not.

Boy, that Kim Jong-il is a handsome guy, ain't he? He's obviously an Elton John fan. He looks like he had a second rate plastic surgeon graft those wattles on for him. Or maybe he was in makeup for his role as the Cowardly Lion in the Wizard of Pyong Yang. R-R-R-R-R-R-R-RUFFFFF!!!! Put 'em up! Put 'em up, I tell yah!

I can see it now...

Mrs. Smith, unfortunately this handgun is on the No possession-list. Thank you for bringing it to us and saving us the time of hunting you down.

if I had one illegally up and to that point, and then they enact this horse hockey of a stance, I'm not sure I'd be real inclined to give up possession for them to do an illegal search (read: ballistic testing).

on a side note, that picture of Kim Jong Il is from Team America: World Police
he is, indeed, so ronery...
FWIW, IIRC, AFAIK, FTMP, IANAL. YMMV.
