.45 ACP SHOTSHELLS?
I just found some .45 acp shotshells, do these work in any automatic .45? by any gun I mean, do they work in a glock 30 or 1911?
Also would these make good self defense rounds?

Might make someone angry. They usually contain a very small amount of #9 or #11 shot.
These were developed as snake loads and for relatively short distances, at that.

They might make good self defense rounds if you can get close enough to shoot your assailant in the eye, and even then you might just make them mad.
They work ok against snakes.
.45ACP shot shells will not reliably cycle the action of many 1911s.
Fired at an old junk television, years ago, from a revolver, at a range of 15 feet, they failed to penetrate the glass.

I shot a .22 lr at an old TV from about 15 feet away and not only did it fail to penetrate it came back and hit my leg. Those tv glass screens are very thick and tough.

wow, my bb gun penetrated my tv screen lol. (I didn't shoot it) still worked, but it had a hole in the glass.

Re: .45 ACP SHOTSHELLS?
FWIW, I've found the CCI shot loads to cycle in some semis, not others. The .45 ACP loads ran fine in my Glock 36. At a range of maybe 4 to 5 feet, I used once to take a snake's head smooth off. Well, not exactly "smooth" - but off.
The 45 throws about twice the payload of the 9s and 38s - but, as others have said, should be considered virtually worthless at any distance against anything bigger than a bumble bee.

Re: .45 ACP SHOTSHELLS?
will it screw up the accuracy of my gun? or screw up the barrell? I'm thinking of buying a stainless or chrome or whatever ported barrell for my glock 30.
I really don't want to damage my gun in any way.

The shot loads are lead, and you won't do any damage unless you allow a significant lead buildup in the bore and then shoot an extra hard oversize round.
Someone should suggest that Box O Truth do one of their evaluations on this issue. There is a lot of urban legend about shooting shot loads through rifled barrels.

The short answer is that tiny shot in pistol cartridges equates to tiny effectiveness.

Doesn't make a lot of sense, does it?Skiprr wrote:A ported barrel? For a G30?TexasComputerDude wrote:will it screw up the accuracy of my gun? or screw up the barrell? I'm thinking of buying a stainless or chrome or whatever ported barrell for my glock 30.
TCD, why do you think you want a ported barrel? The recoil from a .45acp just isn't that potent.
You would gain some reduction of muzzle flip and less reduction of recoil with a ported barrel while increasing muzzle blast and flash. This might be justified on a heavy recoiling handgun, but not on a .45acp.

Re: .45 ACP SHOTSHELLS?
well, I was hoping to eliminate what little recoil it has.
I want the sights to stay as close to on target as possible everytime I pull the trigger.
but, as my name would suggest, I know a good deal about computers. I am just getting "into" self defense guns because I realize that a computer won't protect me or my family from any baddies. I love guns but, I just spend more time learning about computers lol. Just tryin to learn enough to become a responsible citizen lol.

Do you know anyone that has a ported handgun that you could shoot in the dark?

Re: .45 ACP SHOTSHELLS?
haha, unfortunately 90% my friends are liberal weenies and hate guns lol.
My dad and other men in my family mainly shoot rifles and don't have too large of a handgun collection. They have many many rifles though.
me, I just have my 30-30 for deer hunting, a 1911, and my glock. I'm becoming the handgun nut of the family because I enjoy them more than rifles (other than the new ar-15 I'm saving up for.)
