Camp Perry National Matches (Update)

Post by iratollah »

Anyone going to Camp Perry over the next couple of weeks for the National Matches?

The girl and I are going up with the TSRA Junior High Power Rifle Team. Will we see any of you there?

Here's our first report from Camp Perry High Power Matches:

The Girl has been in Marine Jr. Shooting Clinic for the last two days, one more day left. She was hugely intimidated by the Marines yelling at her until I told her to look at it as a game. She also thought all the other juniors would be better shots. Well, after the yelling was done the head Marine instructor came over to her and told her that she had a terrific attitude. That inspired her, so she went on to shoot 97.5% in the 200 yard rapid fire, a High Master score. Another Marine instructor looked at her score and said, "Damn, what are you doing in this course, I should be learning from you." The Girl told me, "Daddy, I got a Marine to curse." LOL!! So at the end of the day, she was feeling really good about being here.

Competition for record starts Sunday. I'm bored out of my gourd. Eating, drinking and shopping to pass time. BTW, please send me some scissors so I can cut up my credit cards. Commercial Row here is like CandyLand.

If y'all want updates, I'll keep you posted.

Keep those updates coming.
If you really want to get rid of the credit cards, tape them up to a target on the 200 yard range, right over the bullseye.

If I remember dealing with the Marines, the trick is getting most D.I.'s to NOT curse!! :smilelol5:

Congrats to her on her shooting. Please keep us updated on how the scores are progressing and let her know we are all cheering for her back here on the forum!!! :hurry:

Re: Camp Perry National Matches (Update Number Two)

Post by iratollah »

Yesterday The Girl placed third in the two man team competitions. :anamatedbanana There were 235 teams of all ages competing. She and her teammate won the bronze medal. Teams had their scores handicapped, but nevertheless everyone went by the same rules, she placed and 464 other competitors didn't. The Girl has been shooting several personal bests this week. She had a really big smile when she picked up her medal today.

Camp Perry is challenging and a shooter is doing well here to even shoot within their own class. Last day tomorrow, then long drive home. It's been a great experience and we appreciate everyone's kind wishes.

Re: Camp Perry National Matches (Rattle Battle Update)

Post by iratollah »

Today in the Rattle Battle Team infantry competition, The Girl was the top scoring junior among the two Texas jr. teams. These six person teams shoot at life size silhouette targets from 600 yards, 500, 300 and if there's any ammo left, 200 yards. At each distance, they have 50 seconds to put 25 rounds onto the target, which looks the same size as the top half of a man would at that distance. At 600 yards The Girl put 20 of 25 rounds onto the target and at 500 yards she scored 24 hits in the 50 seconds! Again, all iron sights. Overall she had 54 hits of 64 shots, which is truly excellent performance.

Even more special, this was her very first time to shoot Rattle Battle. We're on our way home now and spending the night in Kentucky. Coming home with a bronze medal and such an incredible performance in the infantry competition made this trip memorable and certainly worthwhile. We think she'll have her master rating by year end.
