shooting wax bullets or airsoft against ordinance?

Hey folks-

I live in Cedar Park TX and I can't seem to get the city ordinances to come up on their web site.

Does anyone know if shooting an airsoft gun, or wax bullets loaded with only primers is against a city ordinance in Cedar Park? Or maybe even a regular air gun (pellets, BBs)?

I'd like to get in some target practice without burning $$ in ammo and gas. Wax bullets would be the best. I figure there is an ordinance against shooting firearms in the city limits but I wonder if it extends to wax bullets, airsoft or BB/pellet guns.

You can bet that any discharging firearms ordinance will not make exceptions based on ammunition.

They won't care that it is only a primer powered wax bullet, it would still be discharging a firearm.

Sec. 8.01.002 Prohibited
It shall be unlawful for any person to discharge a firearm, bow and arrow, crossbow or blow gun within the corporate limits of the city. (1998 Code, sec. 7.102)

You could use an AirSoft or BB gun inside your house or garage. Use a box full of newspaper as a backstop.

Brass with a primer is more than half the cost of a complete cartridge. That won't save much money. You're better off shooting a .22.

IANAL, but from my understanding CO2 devices would be legal.

There are some very nice pellet guns available that are excellent for indoor target practice. I have a couple that I bought from Beeman Precision http://www.beeman.com/

They have good triggers and are extremely accurate. After the initial cost of the airgun, they are very cheap to mantain and shoot. The cost of these airguns may put off some people, but they are not toys. They are precision airguns that provide many years of high-quality target practice. Factoring in the cost of ammunition, the cost is quite reasonable.

As SeamusTx suggested, make sure you have a good backstop. Even though they aren't powered by "an explosion" pellet guns can do some damage. A box of newspaper is good, but there are also some commercial pellet traps available for a reasonable price.
