Jerry Lewis Detained for Concealed Handgun

Post by WildBill »

Comedian Jerry Lewis was detained by police in Las Vegas late last week when airport screeners found an unloaded gun in his baggage, authorities said on Tuesday.

Lewis, 82, had a small .22-caliber handgun when he arrived at the security screening area on Friday at Las Vegas McCarran International Airport, said Officer Ramon Denby, a spokesman for the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department.

The comedian was briefly detained and the gun was seized. Lewis was cited for carrying a concealed weapon without a permit, Denby said.

Another story said that the gun was a "hollowed out prop."

Police basically said that if it was a prop gun, he wouldn't have been detained. Time will tell.

Whether or not it was a "real" gun he still could, and should IMO, be charged by TSA.

Of course he's another rich guy and will probably get away with what the regular person would not.

Well, some of them were not that good, either. ;-)

I bet know where I would be right now, if it had be me instead of him.

There was a time when Jerry would have the connections in Vegas to make this a non-event.

Being stuck in a cell with Jerry Lewis. Wouldn't that be cruel and unusual punishment? :biggrinjester:

Y'all know that Jerry Lewis used to be quite the handgun quick draw specialist. Not as fast a Bob Munden, but one of the fastest celebs--IIRC several members of the Rat Pack were into quick draw for many years.

Scrolldown about half way and you'll find the info.

I realize the ‘Rat Pack” was not the best behaved group in the world during their reign, but the fact that he is 82 and considering all he has done for MDA the past 40 years, I would cut him a little slack on this and let him walk away.

Sure, just as long as you cut each and every one of us proportional amounts of slack for our less visible volunteer activities. In my case that would be 17 years as a volunteer fireman, almost as many years as an EMT, some concurrently, 15 years working for Special Olympics, volunteer coach for youth rifle teams, Red Cross instructor and volunteer activities, I even volunteered for the Navy - all that should count and more.

Sorry, as a high profile public figure, he is one who should set the higher standard and be an example, not rely on our largesse just because he is who he is. He should flat out know better.
