still wish they would just have a "superman" telephone booth with one of those "safe direction" bullet-proof things (like at Bass Pro) where one could dis-arm, and then re-arm before leaving.

Great idea, there's plenty of space next to the door to park a trailer & to make the change.

For clearing, I recommend an "academy pad": it's just a bit of body armor, about 8x10. Lay it flat on the table, and perform all clearing operations with the muzzle in direct contact.
