Long journey to awareness
I have been an active outdoorsman/hunter since I was a child. My wife was a hunting widow while we were newlyweds. The "general" as I call her, never understood my fascination with firearms. Over the decades she became more and more tolerant of my purchasing and shooting. Over the past several months she has asked to read a couple of Masad Ayoob's paperbacks. Lately there has been more discussion of the violent attacks of innocent victims in the news. So, to make a long story short, last night she asked when she could get the professional training necessary to obtain her CHL.
I am as proud as a pen full of peacocks. Depending on DPS processing times we will soon be a husband and wife carry team.

Great news. There are several "teams" on the board. Prowd to say I am on. When Mom is w/ us that makes 3.

Carry 24-7 or guess right.

Congrats! Two sets of eyes are much, much better than one set.

That story brings a tear to my eyes. It also give many of us hope that maybe our loved ones will eventually come around.

That story may bring tears to your eyes, but if that were my old lady, it would bring fear to my heart.

Congrats to you. My wife is very tolerant of my "obsession" as well but alas has not decided to participate yet. I don't pressure her but I do not like the fact that she is so opposed to getting her CHL. I worry about her constantly. My oldest daughter realizes the need and has asked for a weapon to carry in her car. I have no doubt that my middle daughter and my son will be armed when they come of age. I just don't understand my wife's reluctance to do so. She is in no way afraid of guns as she goes hunting with me regularly.

Hunting and target shooting are social and recreational activities for most participants. When you carry a firearm for self defense, it's a reminder there are bad people in the world and they may try to hurt you today. Some people don't want to think about that. People put off making wills and living wills for similar reasons. It's more comfortable emotionally to ignore the risk. I don't know if that's what's going on with your wife but it's not uncommon.Mike from Texas wrote:I just don't understand my wife's reluctance to do so. I have one of those, too. Only I refer to her as the "High Priestess".sbb wrote:My wife was a hunting widow while we were newlyweds. The "general" as I call her,

Pedalman, my youngest son's wife is refered to as "the Admiral". My mother is refered to as, you guessed it, "Chairman of the joint chiefs".
They mostly follow Teddy Roosevelt's advice, "walk softly and carry a big stick".
