CHL valid at Toyota Center?

Post by Paladin »

By some bizarre stroke of luck I just won some tickets to a Rockets Game. Don't know what day yet. I'm not even a basketball fan or anything.

Walked by the Toyota Center for the NRA convention last week. I think Toyota Center posts 30.06, but I'm not sure if 30.06 is valid or if my CHL is valid there?

I'd really hate to be walking around Houston after dark without at least one gun.

I am not sure if they are posted or not, but I am sure they check bags and do wand tests. But I thought you could not carry at any professional events. I could be wrong.

Paladin:

You cannot carry at a professional basketball game, regardless of the location of the game. (See Texas Penal Code Section 46.035(b)(2).)

The Toyota Center is owned by a governmental entity and, except for sporting events, is subject to the exclusionary language of SB501 that passed in 2003 and amended Tex. Penal Code Section 30.06. In short, 30.06 cannot be used to exclude CHL's from government owned property. However, cities are trying to circumvent the clear intent of the statute through short or long term leases. This issue has been discussed in another thread "Can You Carry on City Property?" in the General Texas CHL Discussion section.

Regards,
Chas.
