Dallas Target & Action Shooters Group- almost 600 members!

Post by Shadowboxer »

Hi All,

I run the Dallas Target & Action Shooters group: http://targetshooting.meetup.com/27/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

I have 525 members and we're growing. We meet once a month at a local range on a Saturday morning. We also meet once a month on an evening after work in the Addison area for a social-type dinner to talk about shooting stuff over dinner.

My membership is a 50/50 split between men and women. They are all skill levels from the absolute beginner to LEO and military.

The only requirement is that my members treat everyone with respect and come with a casual, friendly attitude. There is no cost to be a member (I pay the $1,000/yr to run the site out of my own pocket). I hope you'll consider joining us!

Just curious.... Is this more of a singles thing, or do you have married couples who are members also? If it's not too much of a singles thing, my wife and I might be interested.

We have both. I would say 60% are single and 40% either have a significant other or are married.

I actually met my girlfriend at one of my range days :) She's the blond in the pic on the home page of my group.

I've had some members who have even brought their teenage son or daughter.

I've been to a few of the meets, Michael is great with organizing, and I had a lot of fun meeting others out there, and trying out different guns. Highly recommended.

What are the requirements? What would we be allowed to shoot? Is it just the rifle and pistol or do you get together for skeet or sporting clays?

The ONLY requirement I have for membership is that people treat every member with respect. We are a friendly, laid-back group (Not about safety though) with a people of all skill levels. The goal is to provide a forum for all skill levels, with an extra emphasis on making the new shooter feel welcome.

It costs me $$$$$$ to keep the web site active on the site it is, so I do ask for a $2 donation at events, but it is not mandatory. That helps off-set my web site fees and all the time I put into organizing the events and reserving our space at the ranges, etc, etc.

You're allowed to shoot anything the range allows. We do pistol and rifle, we have a IDPA style shoot coming up, and would love to have skeet/trap events but I just haven't had the time to plan that yet. If a member would like to organize such an event in the mean time, I would welcome that.

My local range is Elm Fork. I'm there almost every Sunday. I would like to join you this Saturday if it's possible. It's always nice to meet new people with similar interests.

Thanks to everyone that attended our dinner social last week and then our range day on Saturday.

We had 15 people at dinner last week, and 22 at our range day - many of which were new members!

Here's a link to a vid of me running a carbine drill at Elm Fork with the crew Wednesday night. It's a 9mm RRA AR.

We had to switch from strong-side to weak-side at each post as we approached. We also needed to use the post as 'cover'.

First, the Girlfriend passed her CHL class Saturday!

Second, anyone work in a gun shop in the D/FW area?

I have a flier for the group - if I could email it to you and maybe print some out and leave on the counter to help get the word out about us I would greatly appreciate it!
