Monarch 7.62x39

Post by DoubleJ »

I bought some FMJ Monarch ammo, the other day, and had a Q.
anyone know the characteristics of the bullet, itself? just a lead core, brass jacket?
it has a steel casing, which is ferrous, so I'm afraid the "magnet" test may be somewhat unreliable.
FWIW, IIRC, AFAIK, FTMP, IANAL. YMMV.

I was under the impression that it was just lead core. Steel core would be armor piercing, and command a higher price, imo.

fwiw, I use it with no probs.
Ø resist

Take away the second first, and the first is gone in a second.

cool, thanks.
reason I asked is the BT let's you shoot FMJ, but must be leadcore. They do ye ol' magnet test, to confirm.
guess I'll find out for sure tomorrow!
worst case scenario they'll take one round apart and check it (they did this with some S&P soft tip I had).

Its rare to get WOLF, Silver Bear, or Monarch in anything but lead core

To do a magnet test set the bullet upright on a table, use a large speaker magnet, if you can pick the bullet up off the table by touching the tip..its got steel in the bullet

Here is a pretty cool ballistics information site I found on the Mosin
