Looking for a Saiga 12, need some help.

Post by AFJailor »

I'll be traveling back to the Great State of Texas soon for more training and I would really like to purchase a Saiga 12 while I am down there. There are too few shops in the frozen north and no one seems to be able to get ahold of one in 12 gauge. Anyone know of a shop in the San Antonio/Plano area that has one?

Any help would be appreciated.

The last time I visited San Antonio (a few months ago), there was a shop on the north-bound side of the 410 loop just a little north of hwy 90 on the west side of town (I forget the name, but it's surrounded by a high fence and has a military-style humvee or two in the parking lot) that had at least one or two in stock. I didn't check prices, because I wasn't interested myself, but I remember seeing them.
Remember, in a life-or-death situation, when seconds count, the police are only minutes away.

Yeah, I want one too. It seems like the route to go is to get the stock unit and buy a pistol grip/stock combo upgrade and install it yourself. It seems the folks who sell them already converted want around $300 for the service. Not a good deal, considering the stocks are generally well under $100.

Gunbroker seems to have them available, if you're likely to buy online. They seem to go for around $750 new (for the stock units).

A bit of caution: the conversions that you see being done are more than just turning the hunting stock into a pistol grip version. We have some rather nasty and complicated import laws that govern "evil" features" on foreign guns. Basically, to convert a sporterized Saiga into a Evil Rifle, you need to install a minimum number of US-made parts for it to be legal. There should be more info here: http://forum.saiga-12.com/index.php?showforum=65

I did a conversion myself already on 2 saigas. It is very easy to do and the name of the game is 922r. You need 10 or less imported parts on it(for the saiga). Pretty simple when you add the buttstock, fcg, magazine, pistol grip, bushing, nut. The hardest part is removing the small tack welds which if you got a drill press (i didnt) it would be super easy. I used my dremel for it all and slapped all the parts in done. the buttstock counts as 1 part. The fcg counts as 3 parts, magazine counts as 3 so that in itself from 14 is 7 imported parts. your good to go. I was told though they are retooling there plants and are supposed to be releasing abunch of them comming soon. They are releasing a special spetnaz version also which will run about $1200.00.
