Kimber Tactical Ultra II

Thinking about a Kimber Tactical Ultra II as a carry weapon anyone have any thoughts good or bad about the gun.

I have a Kimber Tactical II Pro in 9mm and I love it. I also have a Kimber CDP Pro in .45, and I like the feel of the Tactical better than the CDP. There are minute differences in the feel of the grip, and the Tactical feels slightly better in my hands than the CDP. I also like the extended magazine well on the Tactical, and am thinking about putting one on my CDP. I've had no issues at all with mine, and right now if I were going to pick up an ultra model, I think I would lean towards the Tactical II over the CDP based on my experience.

I love my little Kimber. Shoots well, is reliable, and carries nicley. I have used it a BUG matches in IDPA and never had a problem with it.

I absolutely love my Kimber Ultra Carry. Carries wonderfully and its a tack driver. Just remember, they are happier in nice leather.

The only thing I can think of that is bad is they are kind of like Gremlins. Except even if you don't feed 'em after midnight, they'll still multiply. 1911's are happier in groups. They have been known exist singularly, but it is very rare.

I don't own one but had the chance to fire one a couple of weeks ago. The couple on the next lane wanted to fire my LCP so we swapped lanes for a few minutes. At 10 yards, I put 8 rounds into a 3-inch circle. Great trigger feel and break. I now want one!

I have one and I have not had one problem with it! I currently carry in a Mika pocket holster but it's a little bulky...

Like BigBlueDodge, I have the CDP in the same size, not the Tactical. I have about 2,500 rounds of ball down it, and probably 150 of +P HP (I hear G.C. Montgomery laughing in the background, asking, "So you think that's broken in?"). It's yet to have a malfunction.

I use Wilson mags exclusively in it, and I swapped out the factory grips for slim-lines. It makes the grip a bit small for me, but reduced the profile by almost 1/4 inch. The Wilson mags hold seven, and I carry two spares in a TTGunLeather IWB holder (I should post some photos and a short review: great product, and great customer service). The only thing I may eventually have done to it is remove the ambi safety; I'd prefer not to have it on my carry gun.

My personal opinion is that the reputation of unreliability of these 3"-barrel 1911s is no longer founded (though do prepare to pay a bit more from time to time to replace the recoil spring assembly at recommended invervals), and that they make a marvelous compromise between carry comfort and defensive performance. With the slim-line grips and not counting the ambi safety, mine is slightly under 1.1 inches at its widest point. I carry 7+1 of Ranger +P .45 in that small package, and as others have noted the accuracy is extremely good for a short barrel; I own nothing else with less than a 4-inch barrel that can match it.

I still carry full-size 1911s with some regularity, especially when the weather gets cooler, and may start to carry a Springfield XD(M) if it continues to perform well over the next few months, but the little Kimber is a go-to gun for me that combines excellent ease of concealment with good intermediate distance accuracy and a good defensive payload.

I have a friend of mine who just got one of these and we took it out to the range. I liked it very much. I currently carry a CDP and absolutely love that one. I am just a big fan of Kimber.
