Ammo for teachers
Assuming that the State passes a law where "trained teachers" can carry in the class rooms, what would be the "ideal" ammo???Hollow points, low velosity. What ammo do the pilots use??
Re: Ammo for teachers
The ideal ammo for any self-defense situation is ammunition that's reliable, proven, and that you're confident carrying.Rusty wrote:Assuming that the State passes a law where "trained teachers" can carry in the class rooms, what would be the "ideal" ammo???Hollow points, low velosity. I would carry the same ammo as I would anywhere else.Rusty wrote:Assuming that the State passes a law where "trained teachers" can carry in the class rooms, what would be the "ideal" ammo???Hollow points, low velosity. What ammo do the pilots use??

There's nothing special about a school environment that isn't present in offices, stores, etc. where large numbers of people can be found in a building.
A good hollowpoint is all you need. That's what law enforcement uses - they don't change ammo when they go on a call at a school.

Re: Ammo for teachers
Ammo choices doesn't matter, but I wouldn't mind those who are involved (CHLers who carries at school) be trained with simunitions on school ground on a saturday at least twice a semester though.

Re: Ammo for teachers
More training is always better. The point of contention in this post is how much should be required.KinnyLee wrote:Ammo choices doesn't matter, but I wouldn't mind those who are involved (CHLers who carries at school) be trained with simunitions on school ground on a saturday at least twice a semester though.

An article in the Houston Bird Cage Liner today stated that the teachers or administrators would be using the same ammo that sky marshals use to decrease the chance of riccochet.

For those who may not be aware the Air Marshalls carry 357Sig because of its ability to penetrate among other things. I suspect that their ammo will ricochet quite effectively.

"Ammo for teachers"
Aww, man. I thought this was a first-day-of-school-give-away offer?!?
Seriously, any quality JHP, just like I carry everywhere else.
The more QUALITY training the better, but ammount required? No more than private security, can anybody knowledgable post that info?

They don't have to pass a law to allow teachers to carry.Rusty wrote:Assuming that the State passes a law where "trained teachers" can carry in the class rooms, what would be the "ideal" ammo???Hollow points, low velosity. What ammo do the pilots use??
FWIW, IIRC, AFAIK, FTMP, IANAL. YMMV.
Re: Ammo for teachers
An excellent idea. Even LE agencies believe there is merit to training for school-specific scenarios.KinnyLee wrote:Ammo choices doesn't matter, but I wouldn't mind those who are involved (CHLers who carries at school) be trained with simunitions on school ground on a saturday at least twice a semester though.
