How to track Status of CHL application?

Post by Boma »

https://www.texasonline.state.tx.us/NAS ... AppManager

It says I need a PIN number? I never got one. It also says I need to submit "texas concealed hangun license number" to receive a pin. How do I get the license number? Thanks!!!

In order to login you are required to have a Personal Identification Number (PIN). All PIN’s are assigned by the Texas Department of Public Safety. If you have forgotten, misplaced or never received your PIN, please contact TxDPS via email (chl@txdps.state.tx.us) and include the following information: Texas concealed handgun license number, driver license number, full name and date of birth. Your PIN will be returned in a timely fashion to the same email address submitting the request and in the order your request was received.

First, when did you mail your packet to DPS? They will send a PIN in the mail when your application is being processed. I'm not sure of the duration between your packet being received and issuing of the PIN.

My guess for them needing the CHL number applies to renewals, From your post, I assume that this a first time license.

Good lock and keep us posted.

I mailed it via certified mail on march 7th. I know it got there because i received the return slip. I have not received the pin yet.

I'm so impatient I need my CHL now! =)

As you know, patience is a virtue, especially while waiting for your CHL. If you've been reading this forum, then you know that you should be prepared to wait as much 90 days. That's unfortunate, but it seems to be how things are going in Austin.

So DPS has had you packet for a month and change. You should be receiving you PIN soon. I would give it another week. If you haven't gotten it by then, then call them.

It sometimes appears as if the squeeky wheel gets the grease with DPS CHL division.

Anytime you want to know the status of your CHL application just pull up this thread and read the status message below.

"Processing Application"

I never got anything other than that back from an online status query when mine went through last time.

Then one day about 2-3 months after I mailed in my package, my CHL showed up in the mail...
Do you know about the TEXAS State Rifle Association?

Boma:
Did you start the process on the Internet at the DPS web site; i.e. answer the preliminary questions and pay the license fee? If so, then the pre-printed application form you got will have your PIN on it. (I hope you kept a copy.) If you just used a "manual" application form, the PIN will come to you in a letter from DPS. Be careful, the DPS letter looks much like other junk mail we all receive daily. Those of you coming up for renewal be careful; you won't get the package, just a letter.

Have a great Easter and let's remember why we rejoice today!

I did it the manual way Charles. I took the course at Carter's Country and they helped us complete all the paperwork. I later took the packet and mailed it via US mail.

Thanks. Happy Easter.

Boma,

My son took the course in early February, mailed his packet off about the third week of the month. He received his PIN notification last week.

Yours should not be too much longer, if that time frame holds true.

Completed online form back in February...completed CHL class on 20Mar06 and have my PIN....but the "Track status" just sez..." Packet Mailed to Applicant" ....the same it's been since before my completed packet was received by DPS on 23Mar06 (USPS Certified Receipt Requested) received by me.

Should I be taking any other steps at 31 days as to online "Packet Mailed..."? :???:

Thanks DaveT. I called the CHL office and they said to give 60 days before calling to check. The lady said they're behind, and they're busy.

Send an email, (address on website) stating your concern. Chances are you will be reassured that all is well and pending, but it does relieve the stress of not knowing if there is a problem or info missing.

(Day 45 and no PIN yet)

Darn shame it takes so long.

My son is 21, patience is not in his vocabulary......

Y'all don't get discouraged. Look at the wait as an extended opportunity to wear your holster and gun of choice around the house so you can get used to it before going out in public !

It's been 30 days for me,.. but the instructor told us with the high number of people applying for their CHL, it would take a little longer than it used to.
