New Glock 22

I just upgraded from a S&W Sigma .40cal to a Glock 22. It is a used one which I bought from Gander Mtn. It came with night sights, and cost $479. The Sigma gave me store credit, then an additional $60 was taken off the price, and the store granted me an additional $20 gift certificate. I got a G22, with night sights, in very good condition, and an extra magazine for a grand total of $280.

Not bad. I got a Glock 23 with night sights and 3 mags for $399 at Cabelas. It was a LE trade in they had for sale at $499. I used my Cabelas credit card and they knocked another $100 off. Looked brand new when I got it. Still had the factory copper colored lube and the finish was flawless. Now 2000+ rounds later the barrel is showing some wear.

After you tire of the G22 upgrade to an HK USP 40 like others who've woken up have. Friends of mine who have Glocks traded theirs in for an HK and regretted not getting an HK in the first place.

That's pretty rude a bit, isn't it? A fellow buys a new gun and you tell him he hasn't woken up and will regret it? What's with new members being like this lately? I guess you might want to email the over 100 countries using glock as service weapons, and about 65% of the police in the USA must be pretty stupid then?

Do you know "why" all those agencies chose Glock in the first place? PRICE. If HK's and Sig's were $380 each, there'd be more of them with law enforcement. I'm in school for law enforcement and have seen the price of a Glock with the law enforcement discount, a G22 that's usually $500-550 is $380. The problems I've seen with Glocks are: failure to feed, failure to fire(firing pin problems), I've even seen Glocks whose trigger didn't reset, failure to eject(broken extractor), and magazine problems as well. Have you seen the police shootout where a female officers Glock jammed in the middle of a gun fight! Yeah, sure sounds like Glock is a winner .

I've put 2500+ rounds thru my Glock 23 without a single problem. There are people on GlockTalk that have put tens of thousands of rounds thru their glocks without problems. I did see a guy at the range having problems with his glock jamming every few rounds but that thing was filthy. One of the range officers cleaned it for him and the jams went away. People forget that a glock only needs 5 drops of oil. They soak their glock with oil which collects crud and will eventually cause problems.

I work for a local PD that allows officers to carry just about anything they want with a few caliber and manufacturer restrictions. Many officers carry a 1911, many carry Glocks, there are a few HK's, and I know one officer that carries a S&W revolver.

I carry my G22. Mostly because I know when I need it it will function as I need it to.

I really like the Glock. My shot speeds have drastically reduced, my accuracy has gone up, AND I now have the luxury of being able to shoot accurately at night. I can't think of a single thing that would make me regret this decision.

Sure, why would I be dumb enough to buy a pistol that can function after being abused? I figure if I take care of it just a little bit better than this, it'll be able to take care of me. I would imagine that the reason those officers were getting jams was because they got a sub-compact pistol with a large caliber, and they were unable to handle it properly. Nothing wrong with that, they just need to get a larger frame size, or a smaller bullet. It happened to me. I shot my uncle's Glock sub-compact .45 with the mag extension, and I hated it. My hands were too big to fit on such a small grip. Thus, I couldn't properly control the weapon, and I actually had 2 stovepipes 1 magazine. (One stovepipe, when I tried to clear it, flipped around and went into the chamber backwards... so that was fun). But that's not the pistol's fault, that was me trying to shoot a gun I was not fit for shooting. I would imagine that the same thing happened to the female officer.

Wow, your comparing ONE HK COMPACT, to another Glock owner who's biased?
Nope, female officer had a Glock 23 that had failure to feed. Only happend once during the firefight, but luckily she recovered fast enough from it to not to give the bad guy the chance to kill her. She ended up hitting the guy in the foot!?!?

Interesting... I've never heard of anything like that before. Ah well, maybe they received a bad shipment or something. I haven't had any problems with it. I haven't witnessed any problems with the other Glocks I've been around, and second to their Sigs, Glock is the only weapon several officers I know carry.

I think that track record is good enough for me.

Just keep in mind guns are machines and at anytime for a variety of reasons they can malfunction - ANY OF THEM CAN.

I am just glad that there is such a wide variety of guns to choose from so we can each find the one that works for best for us.
