Ike aftermath--This ain't Nawlins

Post by Texian »

Found this and couldn't resist. Caption read:

Man sits on the window ledge of Rudy and Paco Restaurant keeping watch over the business that lost its windows and was flooded in the aftermath of Hurricane Ike.

Speaking of Ike and bars, I'm curious about a bar in Galveston I saw on the news that was staying open through Ike. Had several patrons. Can't find any updates on how they weathered the storm. Evidently no one died, just wondering. Anybody know?

Hmmm, I would prefer my sidearm be on my hip in a proper holster. But, at least he has one.

Just an oversized baton. ;-)

Any opinions on what kind of pistol that is? Looks kind of like a Beretta 92/96 to me.

I dunno...It looks small to me, so I was thinking Beretta Cheetah.

Notice the longneck on each side. One for each hand. I reckon it was that kind of day in Galveston.

The name of the holdout bar is The Poop Deck. http://www.galveston.com/poopdeck/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

The people holed up there aren't making the news as survivors, nor is the bar. If you ask me, they pooped in their own nests by electing to stay.

My great Uncle Bud and Aunt Verdie were swept off the island by the Hurricane of 1900 clinging to a board, and made eventually it to shore alive. Hang out on Seawall Boulevard for a hurricane? No thanks.

The words don't need to say what the picture says much more eloquently. ;-)

Evacuees' nests were pooped in just as thoroughly. The storm did what it did, regardless of whether the property owners sheltered in place or bugged out.

I think he has time to grab the weapon as someone sloshes through 3 feet of water towards him.

Boy oh boy, I bet there is a story to be told about that. I've read quite a few of the survivors tales about the Great Hurricane of 1900 and when I think of the trauma those people had to endure, I can't even imagine to comprehend even 1% of it.

I found this on Fox concerning the "Poop Deck" and the party. The report said that the police shut it down just before the hurricane came ashore, and they interviewed one of the patrons that drove out during the storm!! However, the "Poop Deck" did survive the storm! Crazy!

It is on Fox videos... http://search2.foxnews.com/search?ie=UT ... ton%2C+TX#

I wonder if Ike convinced some people to move back to New Orleans. Or maybe far away from the hurricane coast.
We're here. With gear. Get used to it.

Well, for one thing, the competency of our state and local officials far outstrips that of the buffoons in Louisianna in general and New Orleans in particular.
