CZ mag problems and customer service

Post by kalipsocs »

Just thought I would tell my tale as well as give CZ big compliments for their customer service.

I took my brand spankin new CZ P-01 out to the range a few weeks ago. Was shooting some 124 grain 9mm FMJ in Remington and Blazer Brass. Shot great for most of the time but I had two FTFs. Needless to say I was a little shocked as well as discouraged as I bought this for my day to day CC piece.

Well yesterday I bought some more 9mm this time in 115 grain Remington and hollow point. Loaded up both mags and decided to push out the bullets one by one and see what happened. On both mags the first 5 rounds would not align themselves properly at all and their was very little force from the spring when it would push up the next round. The bullet would also catch on the mag very consistently. So in conclusion, I chocked up my problems to a weak magazine spring (also, I can load all 14 rounds by hand without breaking a sweat at all. My other high caps fight to the death on those last couple rounds!).

So I sigh at the thought of jumping through hoops to either get CZ to send me new springs or new mags. I call, and within 1 min I have a gunsmith on the phone. Tell him my problems and he tends to agree, transfers me to parts. I tell him the same story, and he also agrees. Tells me that 2 new ones will be in the mail and a return envelope will be with the new ones in about a week  My entire phone call was a hair under 5 mins. This is compared to my last customer experience issue with Bersa, in which I was called a liar and told that they would mark me down as never being able to receive service through that particular gunsmith due to "extreme negligence" (bulged barrel from squib load with new ammo). So maybe this is the kind of service that is expected of a manufacturer, but I was floored and will steer everyone I can to CZ not only due to their excellent firearms but the service to back them up. :anamatedbanana

So aside from the feed problem, what was your overall thought on the CZ? I'm thinking about buying a SP-01 to add to my collection (want a full size 9mm). I've had wonderfull experience with CZ in their rimefire rifles (IMO they make THE best .22LR, .22MAG, .17HMR for the price you pay).

Well when I took to the range, besides my 2 FTFs it shot like a tack driver from any defensive distance. I am sure it could shoot better than me though. Very little recoil and I was punching out a hole in the target. I advise a buy...now! Great ergonomics too.

I like the CZ accuracy but the 2 CZ's I've had have given me little issues. The CZ100 just had a horrible trigger and didn't smooth out like others had said. Then I had a CZ 40p. It was a tack driver, but was very prone to jamming. Out of a 10 round mag, it would jam rounds against the feed ramp 3-4 times. It did this with both CZ mags I got with it, and 2 others that I tried. Also had one of the night site inserts come out. It was a great looking gun and stupid accurate, but not dependable for CC.

I too am looking for a full size 9mm. I looked at a CZ 75 and a Beretta 92fs yesterday at Gander Mountain. I like the feel of the CZ better than the Beretta. I have small hands and the Beretta was a little large for my hands. The CZ actually felt smoother and but it did seem heavier. The fit and finish on the CZ was not quite as nice as the Beretta but it cost quite a bit less too. I also thought the ergos on the CZ were a tad better for me anyway. What is the Sp-01 model? Is it a CC size CZ?

When I did my CHL class, I was there with two other guys. Two of us brought our own guns (me with my SW9VE which I had fired around 300 rounds through, and another guy with his Ruger P95). The third guy didn't own a pistol so he'd borrowed a CZ 75 from a friend and he had shot less than one mag through it the day before just to make sure it worked.

Well suffice to say, the guy with the CZ had the highest score on the shooting, and pretty much just punched a fat floppy hole in the bullseye with one or two flyers. I am not sure I'd say it's the gun (although that bright orange front sight on his gun was certainly very noticeable), but it didn't hurt. I exhibited my routine trigger pull issue (down and left grouping) and the third guy with the P95 had wide grouping as a rule.

Something to be said for a gun you can use to tear out the bullseye with zero familiarity.

I'll give them credit the CZ are very accurate. I put some of the blame I had with the CZ40p on the fact that it was a frankengun. I want to get a CZ75c in the future as the 75 series is their bread and butter.

Quite the contrary. The SP-01 is a full sized competition model. 17 round clip and 5 inch barrel I believe. Either way, it is far from compact but has some nice features, but not for CC. If you want a CC CZ, I would either go with the P-01 or the 75D PCR.

My bad, the guy who was at our class that outshot me had a CZ 75, not a P-01.

Anyway, I would think for CC you'd want a Rami or Rami P.

oops forgot about those haha. Yeah they are much more compact. My only complaint is they are like a brick with an unloaded mag. I have no idea how they perform either. I am the only CZ fan I personally know!
