In a nutshell: Twice as many people killed in Chicago than over the same time period in Iraq.
Pretty sad when soldiers are safer in a war zone than a major US city.

Is that the same community that Barak Obama organized?

The article says:
"Gang and gun violence continue to be the dominating threat on our streets," Bond said in an e-mail. "Up to 60 percent of the shootings are gang related. More than 90 percent of the offenders have criminal histories and up to 80 percent of the victims have criminal histories."
They want to take our guns away to stop all of this violence.....
Yet most of the offenders and victims have criminal backgrounds. If you take away the guns....the only ones who will keep them are ones who do pay attention to laws anyway - the criminals.
Reading between the lines.......This article tells me that if they take away our guns - violence will only get worse, not better!

Re: Safer in Iraq than Chicago
This is a fallacious comparison. The correct comparison would be the (total, not just U.S.) number of soldiers killed in Iraq, versus the number of police killed in Chicago, expressed as n per 100,000.
Or, compare the number of civilian homicides in Chicago, versus civilian homicides in Iraq, per 100,000.
Even if you continue to compare only U.S. soldier deaths in Iraq to homicides in Chicago, when you compare the ratios you'll see a very different story. Someone else did the math on another forum, and it turns out that in Chicago it was 4 homicides per 100,000, and in Iraq there were 45 soldier deaths per 100,000; ten times the Chicago rate.

In places where law enforcement targets gang members and repeat offenders and works with prosecutors to bring federal charges with long prison terms against them, the crime rates go way down because the real problem (bad people) is being addressed.longhorn_92 wrote:Reading between the lines.......This article tells me that if they take away our guns - violence will only get worse, not better!

Re: Safer in Iraq than Chicago
Hmmm actually comparing all of IRAQ to the city of Chicago is also a false statistic. Iraq has 26 million people in it and probably 3 million illegals. Baghdad has about 7-8 million residents, Chicago about 9-10, there are of course more deaths by bombings than firearms in Iraq and Baghdad, but I bet Chicago still wins the door prize
I am also in Iraq and it has been very quiet these last few months....

Welcome to the forum, ldcarson, it is good to have you with us.
Thank you for sharing your eye witness news from Iraq, it is good to hear from those that are actually there instead of what this liberal media tries to make us believe... a totally different picture. I am thankful that things have quietened down for the last few months.
Thank you, also, for your service to our country!
May the Lord bless you and keep you safe.

Re: Safer in Iraq than Chicago
I have been over here in Iraq since August of 2007. This is my 3rd tour. We have found more Roadside Bombs before they blew up then roadside bombs that did go boom. Our guys have done a great job. As for attacks against us concerning firearms, we have had very few. I can count about 10-12 times we have recieved small arms fire. We are an escort company, we make sure the KBR and Local National Drivers are safe while they transport goods from FOB to FOB. Our folks have done a great job while out there on the road. I was lucky and landed a job that allows me to track and cordinate there movments. I have not been out on the road with my guys, but I know they are doing the right things while they are out there.
